Any one else looking right now? I have never seen anything like this. I left my job in mid December and now that the holidays are over I am getting a lot of calls. I have 4 interviews already and tons of calls and emails about employment. I'm not worried about finding something. I am worried that I'll end up with something no better than I had...Has anyone noticed how well the job market is growing? This is insane. I have interviews with the top two companies on my wish list!

Congratulations! It looks good in my field, too. I pretty much "invent" my job descriptions (I teach short-term workshops in various places) and so far, classes are filling very well in most places. That means people are spending money freely on non-essentials; a good thing for everybody, employment-wise!

What type of classes do you teach, Danae? I love stuff like that. I'm all about the training...

I do creative writing classes & workshops, mainly in poetry; I've taught teens and adults, and the teens are the most fun. Like Bob, though, I'm beginning to branch out; I'm working on some support-type groups/workshops for general creativity. I love it, and it gives me the schedule freedom to still do my own work.

Oh, I'm also a class junkie, too! What kind do you like?

I usually go to a couple of botany and hortaculture workshops per year at a botanical garden run by Michigan state university. Also I have some creative writing classes I'm trying to make some decisions on for spring.

Job market is slow up here in Wisconsin, unless you want a low paying retail job, then there are tons of those! Although I can't say much bad since I just got a new job in my career field so I am happy about that!

I feel they are getting rid of paid workers and replace them with voluntary workers.

Workers of the world, unite!

Gahhh...

The job market in the southeastern U.S. is blazing hot. If you have any kind of skill whatsoever, you can be employed tomorrow. I don't know much about the rest of the U.S., but the sun belt is HOT, HOT, HOT.

The western side is blistering too...Las Vegas and Phoenix are the two hottest markets in the country. Construction is sky high, and IT's doing nicely.

OK, so 8 interviews later...

I am finding that people want to see me because they want to NETWORK with me, not hire me. They like my past client list and want referrals for projects. I'm getting in to see the big names where I want to work, but at this time I have only one part-time possible position. All the other "positions" have magically disappeared, probably because they never existed, or have been filled...Have a "casual tour" of another facility tomorrow. No job there, at least they admit it!

So I'm at that "nobody loves me, nobody wants me" stage

It is hard when I've tried to be such an integral part of the professional community here. I've stopped going to professional organizations/happenings because I don't want to go to another single one until I have a job!

I have a Flash workshop this weekend. Maybe that will breathe a little inspiration in me. I keep seeing Flash in job requirements in the post production industry.

this is my time of year to relax a bit- which drives me nuts considering i want to work all the time. this time of year gets slow for construction unless you like residential work(screw that)

sjpinatl.....keep going i know it's hard but that's one of your best bets is networking in and around the people that are working ....speak up let them know you are still seriously looking......the best jobs never get posted .....they are a referral from someone that knows someone that's looking...

i know how hard it can be but keep your head up and keep telling everyone hey don't forget i'm seriously job hunting so keep me in mind if you hear of anything... and let them know exactly what you are looking for

GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!
