First, what is rexing? Rexing is a form of continuous backward skating in an hour glass form.
Rexing is known to have originated in the San Diego and southern California area of the United States.
Rexing did have many young men and women join rexing clubs as they spent time in the U.S. military and served in the southern california area.
I am about to post a web site in this O.P. so that those of you who were either in a rexing club or know of someone who was can tell them of this web site.

[QUOTEAre there many people that do this?[/quote] Angel, this style of skating had many many throughout southern califorina.
I am not sure when rexing began as an art form but from those I spoke with, the old timers, I believe in the mid to late 1940's. Rexing clubs were organized beginning in the mid to late 1950's.
Over the years, not just the local folks would take up rexing, many also were in artistic roller skating as well, but many servicemen and some service women also took up rexing as they were introduced to it.
Some people, when I came back to Iowa mistook rexing with that of the backward two step. They are not the same as the edges coming out of the middle of the floor are different as well as that rexing, by those who competed, were to be smooth and not bouncy or choppy as is the traditional two step style.
When I mentioned military personnel who picked up rexing, I had met several who before seeing rexing were good two steppers and had even mentioned that they thought the two styles were the same. Once they became involved in the rexing clubs and in rexing competition their misconceptions disappeared quickly.
Again, this OP is only to try to find those who either were involved in rexing years ago or perhaps knew of someone who was and may have mentioned it to others.
THank you CT

I loved rollerskating and did a lot of it as a teenager during the 80's I'm from SanJose California and we called rexing a style of dance skating i did it but not very well. LOL I never heard the backwards style of skating being reffered to as rexing not where i came from anyway. It sure was fun way of meeting other people and showing off. I loved it.
