There has been so much strife among members lately, that I thought I'd share some good news and show what happens when MD members work together.
Children's Rainbow
This is a non-profit organization that a few MD memebers have worked very diligently to make happen.
We CAN make a difference.

Mr Paul, tell us about the first group that will benefit from Children's Rainbow.
I know there was a blog about it, but many forum posters don't visit the blog section.

Children's Rainbow Mountain Retreat's mission to provides three and five day retreats for children with life-threatening illnesses, special needs or who have lived through extreme trauma,(sexual abuse, Physical abuse, Death of a sibling or parent) and their families. We believe that such a retreat will be therapeutic for the children, reestablish and strengthen the family ties.
Services include simple relaxing pleasures like hay rides, petting zoo, fishing, pony rides, as well as free entrance to the nearby attractions in Pigion Forge, Tn in the Great Smoky Mountains. The first goal of the retreat is to provide a peaceful and joyful environment.
Children's Rainbow Mountain Retreat will also provide counseling and have planned activities in place to help the children and their families to bond, establish hope for the future, and generally improve the children's health through fun and laughter
The term “special needs” can mean (but is not limited to) chronic illnesses, disabilities, autism, cerebral palsy, The term.“Extreme trauma can mean ( but is not limited to). death of a parent or sibling, physical or sexual abuse, etc. The term. The retreat is supported by sponsor donations.
Since it's for special needs children, I do hope they have a medical facility close by if it is needed.

We are funded by private donations and will be seeking grants from foundations and private companies. We will also be working with hospitals around the nation to help sponsor the children. We have two doctors that sit on our advisory board and a psychotherapist . Tennessee state protective case workers have already been contacting us wanting to know how to refer children to our program and two of the families we are taking on the retreat in August were referred by state mental health officials. Right now everyone involved has been kind enough to volunteer their services and time. We are hoping to partner up with Dollwood, Bush beans and several other major partners including some of the major country singers that are tied in with Pigeon Forge. We have contacted several of the major cabin owners, restaurant and theater owners in the area with a request for donation of tickets, food and use of cabins. Under IRS guide line we are able to issue a tax donation receipt for fair market value of a donation, money and services.

You won't go wrong if you team up with Dollywood. We get season passes every year we love going there so much! Dolly has done a wonderful job keeping the attraction so family-friendly and fun with a "home away from home" atmosphere.
