There have been a lot of people talking about spiders here. Including me.
I don't want to nightmare about them anymore.
So I went to one of the local grocers and got 4 "hedge apples". The look like bumpy green apples. You put them where the problem is.
I have 3 downstairs....one for sweet dreams, in my room.
Thought I'd help!

I don't stress out much over spiders. It's the giant roaches, gekkoes in the shower and scorpions that will give me nightmares!

It makes them leave your house. If you put them around before they come in, it should keep them out.
(Who knows if it works on other critters

I do not want them near me. I do not want them in my house. I do not want them within 50 feet of me. Freaking nasty things they are.

I hate to spoil any illusions, but the idea that hedge apples repel spiders in an urban myth. Some people swear it works, others say it has no effect. I put several in my mother's basement when I was a kid and never noticed that it had any effect. Spiders rarely seem to be able to detect airborne odors and hence are not repelled by the pungent odor of a rotting hedge apple. In fact, spiders live quite happily on Osage trees (which are the source of hedge apples) and will even build a web on a rotting hedge apple.
Virtually all exterminators (at least those who are not trying to sell you something) agree that the best way to eliminate spiders is to eliminate their food supply. Keep insects out of your house and you won't have any spiders. (That is why cleanliness is so important. ) There are literally tens of thousands of spider repellent recipes on the Internet, but I notice that most of the effective recipes contain some form of lemon, so a product which contains lemon is probably the most effective.

Spiders don't much bother me. The nature of my main job..... electrician puts me into contact with them in attics and crawl spaces,. I been bit and have scars. I also encounter rats and their droppings, bees, roaches, dead and mummified cats and rats. I came from the same mold as Mike Rowe on the Discovery channel.... Dirty Jobs.
If I woman wants to have an equal part in a relationship with me then she will have to get used to those things and crawl around in that too. Only then can she say that she has equal talent. Forget all the number crunching administrative b.s. anybody can do that stuff (consequently that is part of my job too being a business onwer).

Well RQ, all of my internet searches said to use them. The florist and the produce manager said they use them and they work
You are right about clanliness....keep clothes off of the floor. A girl at work said her daughter picked up her jeans and put them on. One was in there and bit her-twice. She had to be hospitalized for 24 hours and given iv meds.

I had a spider that lived on my porch. Every night he built a beautiful web and each morning, he tore it down.
I started looking forward to seeing his latest creation and he grew comfortable enough around me to quit withdrawing every time I opened the door.
He's been gone for 3 day snow. Perhaps he drowned in the rain or was blown away by the wind. maybe he simply ended his life cycle.
I miss him.

I will be happy to send you some of our spiders, Bandtmom. I counted at least eleven different species while painting the foundation of my mother's house three days ago.

I don't hate Spiders. Most of them are what you call "good" Spiders.
Of course, living in California now, I am a little more cautious of ones I don't know.
Mom I remember a time when we had one that made a web every night, and then one day it was gone. It was in a window on out porch. The kids called it Charlotte.

I had a spider that lived on my porch Me too BandT. It was last summer and it made a cool web on top of the charcoal bag so the grandkids named him/her "Coal". He stayed in the same spot all summer long. His web was constructed just like a funnel, big wide opening that funneled down to a small, dime-sized opening. Once a bug would get trapped in the top and would struggle, it would slowly rotate on down, down, down and then finally disappear thru the small hole....probably dropping right on "Coal's" dining room table!

My spider looked like this:

I wish I would have gotten a real pic before he disappeared.
When he first started hanging around, he spun his web right where I like to stand on the porch. Imagine my shock this first time I saw him within an inch of my face! Within a few nights, he moved his web to the side of the pole. It was almost like he "knew" he was in my space.
