ok, lately i've gotten in touch with a good share of my high school classmates. we have all wanted to get together but never have made the time to do so. now one of my friends-(who lives in FL) and i (living in MI) want to get a class reunion together in May.
we 'supposedly' had 2 other reunions..a 5 year and a 10 year (or 10 and 15 year). anyways not alot were contacted in regards to this and now...since i have volunteered, i would really like this to happen. i've never been to any reunions-not even a family reunion!
if you've been to a reunion in the past, what sort of things did they do? any ideas?

I haven't attended a class reunion in a long time.. but the last one scheduled for our class was held at the Marriott Hotel.. there was a DJ.. a meal, and a cash bar..
apparently, alot of folks were not sent invites to ours.. because of that, the classmate that organized the event did not make enough to cover the cost of renting the ballroom...lmao!.. ( not all that were invited attended)
after connecting to some of the "did not invites" on FB.. they also wondered why they did not recieve notice when they had been at the same location for the past 20 years.. we all came to the same conclusion when we we found out the names of the "elite" that were invited.. sadly, the one that organized the event wound up paying a good portion out of pocket for her "private party!

Some people need to be careful what they ask for...

Danger - been to both class and family reunions and there aren't any hard and fast rules that I ever noticed.

You need the patience of a saint and plenty of time to run a class reunion - you might consider having it in the old school gym if you can swing it - at least the price would be right and it could be a fun thing to all get together at the old stamping grounds. You could have it catered - real meals or pizzas..your choice!

The time would be to follow up on leads to people - places like Facebook are remarkable that way - I've found (and been found by) people I haven't seen in decades on there, and use the leads from the ones you find to locate others.

I'm considering going to my 50th reunion in June - same weekend as the annual family reunion (as frikkin' ALWAYS!).. Having gone to one of the 5 top-rated public schools in the country (then AND now), even the very rich chose to send their kids there if they qualified...my dad was a truck driver and I opted to skip the very expensive prom at the Essex House in Manhattan...and I'll probably still opt for family over school buddies since I suspect that it will once again be a lot more formal than I'd really enjoy.

We have ours in July.
Saturday night is at a posh hotel with nice meal. Sunday is at a cookout at the park, and kids are welcome.

danger, I just attended my 45th high school reunion this past May (hadn't been to one since the 10th one ).

We had ours at a very nice resort and spa in Clearwater named the Belleview Biltmore which is currently closed for a 3 year renovation. No, it wasn't because of our class reunion either why they closed....

We had a very good rate for Fri, Sat and Sun, and many of us came from out of state, one from even out of the country. Because of many classmates having moved away, I suggest you do like we did and get a website up and running, the sooner the better. One of my classmates is a puter nerd (and he admits it too) and got it going for us.

Our itinerary for the weekend was planned and posted for all to see and there was even a place to print out a form listing what all we've been up to these past 45 years, to be included in a nice booklet, which had all our addresses and email addys in it, passed out to each of us when we registered at the resort for our reunion.

This was what our events were: our theme, "Roarin' 60's"

Fri. night......Registration and a "Reception" aka as a cocktail party; given our tote
bags with all kinds of goodies in it like leather coasters, coffee
mugs, hippie beads, mini flashlights, feather boas, "candy"
cigarettes... you know, silly stuff like that.

Sat. AM.....Buffet Breakfast

Sat. Afternoon......play golf; deep-sea fishing (reunion committee chartered a
boat); book signing (one of our former teachers wrote a book);
lecture on "Complementary Medicine" by a classmate who
became a doctor; go to the spa; or just hang around by the
pool to visit (that's what I did)

Sat. PM......our Roarin '60's Reunion with live entertainment and DJ playing music
from the 60's. Raffle items awarded (many wine themed gifts, picnic
baskets, antique dolls, fishing gear, spa items, dinner reservations,
etc.)

Sun. AM......"Goodbye" Champagne Breakfast Buffet

danger, this all took money, so in addition to paying for our rooms if we were staying at the resort, we had to pay $100 per classmate to attend. The reunion committee worked for over a year on it and you can tell it was very well organized.

In the booklet the opening page was "In Memoriam" for those of our classmates and teachers who have passed on. We are very fortunate, keep in mind our generation went to Vietnam right after graduation, but out of 343 classmates, we only lost 4 to the war. Several others have passed on from cancer, suicide, etc.

Sorry this post is so long, probably should have made it a blog....lol. Just a few ideas to get you going........good luck and it's definately worth all the work!

the organizers at one time suggested that one of our reunions be a vacation cruise!.. oh.. the stink that one raised!.. needless to say, that boat didn't float!

I graduated from a school in a farming community.. there were probably less than 20 folks in our graduating class that could afford to pay for a cruise.. or take 3 days away from home and kids

Ya, my class suggested a cruise too but no one was interested.

I love cruising but for some reason sailing around on a big boat with a bunch of blowhards with bad comb-overs and their 2nd and 3rd (or more) young trophy wives on their arms just doesn't interest me either....

I graduated in a class of about 750. I went to one reunion, 10th or 20th, can't remember. This past Aug. was our 40th and I didn't go as it was a one-day deal and we were already back at school down here. The one I did go to was also at a hotel, conference room rented, nice catered meal and cash bar. DJ, dancing and reminiscing. Was fun to meet up with the old crowd.
Family reunions? I only have a brother, sister, 2 nieces, one first cousin and several second cousins. That's it.
