I wouldnt mind the penny becoming obsolete!
 Don`t you just hate those pennies..can`t ever get rid of them.

Hey we can compromise -- how about get rid of the penny, maybe even a nickel or dime. Keep the quarters and paper money! The only one that will miss the pennies is my "penny pig" ... (the place I basically dump all the pennies until they accumulate)...

You know moonstar,before I took my two kids to hike the Grand Canyon last month I gave them all my accumulated change that included about 4 coffee cans fulls pennies and told them they could split it for spending money.
$323 split two ways.They had some fun with those pennies!

Almost six years later ....
I don't carry cash anymore. No one accepts cash anymore....except grocery stores and gas stations.

I live in a small town--I use cash for mostly everything except gas and prescriptions. I do pay my bills either with auto. withdrawal or by check. But everything else is cash.

I actually saw on the news tonight how they want to do away with dollar bills and use the dollar coins instead! Dang! My purse would be too heavy to carry then!

Currency is a very inefficient, expensive and criminal friendly way to do transactions. It is obsolete and everyone except crooks would benefit by eliminating it. Its one of those things -- like the current tax system -- which is bad for the vast majority, but is kept in place by the crooked minority that benefits by keeping it the way it is. Therefore currency persists in spite of the benefits of eliminating it.

From what I understand, only 3-5% of currency exists in physical form. A far cry from when "coin" was money but so much easier to steal and *poof* into creation (debt).
Yep, it's becoming obsolete as well as the religion itself.
I can almost hear the foundation crumbling.

I'm with Violette on this. I almost never carry cash anymore. I use a debit card.

.... I will take any paper money that anyone does not want..
I have debit cards... never use them,.. I have a credit cards.. use them online..( but I prefer paypal..) I have a checking account, never use it ( except to pay the credit cards...) .. I do go to the bank. get the green money and use it...all legal and above board.. and have never been told that cash is obsolete.. 
now there was one time at the local hardware store where "store security" stood by me while I paid the 18 + dollar sale with a hundred dollar bill.. he turned red when I told him to F off and get out of my space.. then.. when the store manager came over..I told him that home depot wants my cash business, and flashed my home depot credit card.... no problems after that..  )
