Keith Richards and Eddie Van Halen for defining a style, mastering it and performing it like no one else. Steve Howe for taking it to infinity and beyond. Robin Trower for taking blues to another level. Jimi Hendrix.

Rock and Roll evolved out of the blues, so I nominate Eric Clapton for his ability to interpret the blues like no other. I like Hendrix for coming up with sounds you wouldn't think could come out of a guitar. Listen to "All Along the Watchtower". Jimmy Page for arguably the best guitar solo of all time in "Stairway to Heaven".

My top 5 as of today (living): reflecting that I prefer those who make music over those who just make flashy noise!....
1...Jeff Beck
2...David Gilmour
3...Joe Bonamassa
4...Walter Trout
5...Robben Ford
Hall of Fame, Top shelf:
SRV (in my mind the greatest ever!!), Hendrix, and a whole bunch of old time black blues players......
Of course all of em, be it the ones who make music or the ones who just make noise, all need to look West every so often & thank Mr's. Les Paul & Chet Atkins!!

I have been playing guitar since i was 11 years old, and one of my least favorite genre's of music to play is 1-4-5 blues. I think music should be a moving target...it should evolve, instead of remaining static. That is why so much blues bores me..it is pretty much the same cord progression, over and over and over.
Below are a couple examples of what i consider good blues..it's an good example of a artist contributing to furthering the music instead of just copying what everyone has done. Yes, as a musician I am very biased in what i find value in. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZTmLsm3hwWE

I saw Frampton this past summer in concert. He's still got it. He said he'll be playing for many more years yet, if they have to wheel him out on stage in a wheelchair.
