I love all animals.I have one of each, both are hurricane refugees that we took in.There's Frances our tabby cat that came to us during hurricane Frances. We also have a pit bull that we ended up with during the next storm. They get along well, the pit bull will lick the cat and try to be her buddy (yeah, there's a "mean, vicious pit bull" for you).I like both cats and dogs but I'm a bit partial to cats.Dogs to me are a bit too clingy and needy.I love a cat's independence.I love the attitude that cats have that anti cat people hate.To me,dog people ,that is people who dislike cats and love dogs, seem to have this ego need to be worshipped.Dogs have this bootlicking attitude of servitude that I've never been impressed with. But I love dogs too,I'm just partial to cats.
My mom used to raise and sell persians and hymalayans.I used to tell folks that my mom ran a cathouse and sold pvssy.

I was feeding two stray cats in my neighborhood for a while, until
they massacred a beautiful blue jay and ate him right in front of
me . I had just feed them. I don't care for cats

I've had both cats and dogs but I seem to have a preference for dogs. I also like medium to large dogs.....not "yip yip" dogs like Paris Hilton has. Most of the dogs I've owned have been mixed mutts even Coco my chocolate lab. She's been one of the best dogs I've had.
I do think cats are beautiful...... :)

I know what you mean! I used to tell people that mother had to wait on the welfare checks so she could go and get some drugs! (She runs a residential home for old people and disabled people on welfare. When she get their welfare cheques, included is a free drug card). She laughed when I told her that.
Cats and Dogs. I don't get it. These animals need a caring loving home with a devoted person. I am not that, and I have too hectic of a life to be that. I also don't have a need to fill a void in my life. Therefore I don't see the benefit of these animals to me.
I was accused of being a dog hater once, because my boyfriends dog s*** on the floor all the time. He refused to clean it up. I banned the dog from my house. Excuse me. If my kids s*** on my floor, I would ban them from the house too. Doesn't make me an 'animal hater'. Way I see it, the problem was with the human, not the dog.

I have dogs but don't mind cats. If there was even a remote chance of my dogs tolerating a cat I suppose I would bring home a stray.

Oh and just to totally dismiss what I said previously about not needing any pets, I have 7 horses, 3 highland cows, 10 charlois cows, 1 dog and three barncats. I have inherited them all, in one way or another. Argghhhh!
*Oh yes, I have inherited the 'floor s***ter' as well. Clever of me, non?

I like both each have thier + and -'s. I have 4 cats an none of them would keep a stranger out. Now with the dogs if I don't let you in my yard or say it's ok you better run. I can sit and watch the cats play all day and it really gets funny when I let my ferret out. None of my pets have ever hurt each other and all sleep inside at night. I to have a pit bull mix and if I'm around she might lick you to death.

I love ferrets! Stinky damn things though, even if they are descented.
My exhusband's ferret used to bite him all the time. Only him. I would say that the ferret was an excellent judge of character, but with poor culinary taste. They are the most hilarious animal!

I've had cats, and I've had dogs...
I guess anyone who doesn't have a pet, I would have a hard time understanding... after all, what does someone without a pet know about responsibility, committment, unconditional love... they don't...
just my position....

Grumble, yes!! And it's unconditional love from cats as well as dogs...
I'm with Thor on the pit bulls...mine came in as a puppy, so naturally accepted the existing pecking order, where Fuzzy's top cat. She'll let any of the cats do whatever they want with her though, she just loves the attention. She's about two years old now and I still get a kick out of seeing all these natural enemies curled up on the couch together. Gracie and Fuzzy are my favorite comedy team, kind of a Keystone cops thing, where they take turns chasing each other. And I always get a laugh out of it when Gracie crawls up on my lap (she's about 85 lbs)...my little lap dog. My neighbor just came over, and Gracie behaved like a lady, I'm so proud of her!
I've had pets all my life, mostly cats, but I love them all,

I love cats but don't have any because I travel too often and there are lots of dogs in the neighborhood. But I like the independence cats have. Laid back and they are usually pretty smart. A friend has a Main Coon that weighs an honest 25 lbs! When he wants to, he can easily put his paws on a kitchen counter and look over.
I've seen lots of smart, well behaved dogs. Unfortunately, some people who own dogs are not smart and well behaved themselves, which seems to rub off on their pets! I can't stand dogs who go to barking at the slightest noise or movement. I have back yard neighnor with 4 like that. I've been trying very hard for a long time to be neighborly and not call the cops on them for disturbing the peace!

Did anyone read that story in MSNBC on the 129 dogs that were found? Wow, I can't believe people that cruel. They arrested the guy cause the dogs were fighting dogs. Some had ears bitten off and missing fur. Some could hardly stand up. Its pathetic on the cruelty people do for money.

I love most animals. Dogs are my favorites. Cats are great, and I wish I could have one, but I can't stand litter boxes. I don't care what anyone says, they still stink, even if you change the litter daily.
I can't let the cats go outdoors, because we have a major coyote problem in my rural area. The cats are lucky to last a day here. It breaks my heart to lose an animal, so cats are out of the question.

Part of why I bought my house...a little screened area on the side of the house (originally where the birds were kept) for the litter boxes, with a small enough doggy door that Gracie can't get in there to devil them while they're doing their thing...the bird cage is now fitted out with cushions for them to hang out on too...tough life out here, even the cats have their own private lounge!

I love cats. Kinda weird huh?
I like all animals though. I have had some really wonderful dogs in my life too. That is one of the reasons I don't have either right now. The last 2 animals I had lived to around 13-14 years. ( a cat and dog). It is hard when you loose them.

Yep, my three cats are about 14 now, 3 of 4 survivors of a litter left on my porch back in NYC. They've all had feline leukemia all their lives. Adult cats can resist, but these guys are highly unusual in that they survived kittenhood with it. The only female, Patches, has gone through more than her share of lives already, including brain surgery four years ago. The vet removed part of a tumor but found the rest to be too granular to be operable. Patches is still hanging in there, but I doubt she'll be with me much longer...I'll guarantee one thing though, when I bring her to the vet to ease her on her way, she'll still be purring as she drifts off...
