Post some links to your sources then. Sure, the Mexicans made up their own versions of the story. One even has Davy crockett surrendering and begging for his life like a coward. Believe what u want. Like I said, u are just an outsider (carpet bagger) who could not make a speck on the ass of a true Texas hero like Sam Houston or any of the defenders of the Alamo.

HA!!! Yeah right! Davy Crockett was the bravest of them all! He didn't have a cowardly bone in his body. He went down like a hero alongside the rest of them who stayed to fight for Texas! And he took down a bunch of them before they got him too!
How many did Sam Houston take down? Oh that's right.. I guess he was never actually there.
Davy Crockett should have been the one out there rounding up the army. As always, he would have held true to his word, and Santa Anna would have been toast.
Then they might have named Houston, TX, Crockett, TX.

How many did Sam Houston take down? He took down the entire Mexican army and won independence for Texas, you idiot!!! Crockett, Tx does exist....it is in Houston County ...you EEDIOT!!!
While I dont agree with this account of the "less than heroic" death of Davy Crockett, at least I can provide links to it....
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jos%C3%A9_Enrique_de_la_Pe%C3%B1a
De la Peña's description of Davy Crockett's capture —and summary execution on the orders of Mexican Gen. Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna — goes against the Alamo legend that the Tennessean died heroically near the front doors of the former mission's chapel March 6, 1836. http://www.tamu.edu/faculty/ccbn/dewitt/adp/archives/newsarch/penapaper.html
José Enrique de la Peña’s Story Despite all the angst, the diary makes no attempt to denigrate Davy Crockett. “He (de la Peña) shows a great deal of admiration for Crockett, and a contempt for the people who killed him,” says Crisp. Here is the story, according to de la Peña: A small band of at least 137 Alamo defenders, including Crockett, held off a vastly larger Mexican force, led by Mexican dictator Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna, for 13 days. Only seven defenders “survived the general carnage,” according to de la Peña, a lieutenant colonel on Santa Anna’s staff. “Among them was one of great stature, well-proportioned, with regular features, in whose face there was the imprint of adversity, but in whom one also noticed a degree of resignation and nobility that did him honor,” he wrote. “He was the naturalist David Crockett, well-known in North America for his unusual adventures.” The diary says several Mexican officers asked that the prisoners be spared, but Santa Anna ordered them killed. Members of his personal staff “thrust themselves forward, in order to flatter their commander, and with swords in hand, fell upon these unfortunate defenseless men just as a tiger leaps upon his prey. Though tortured before they were killed, these unfortunates died without complaining and without humiliating themselves before their torturers.” http://www.bpcr.net/documents/Miscellaneous/good%20-%20Davy%20Crocketts%20Diary.htm
unlike sm who can just spout his mouth off about things he has seen in the movies and cannot provide any information to back it up. Typical carpet bagger.

real American state where real Americans live in controversy. Take for instance their controversial license plate :
Texas approves controversial license plate featuring crosses
Texas is getting a reputation for being unwelcoming to all faiths.

doncha know...
everything is bigger in texas....
Saenz noted that Texas has already issued several specialty license plates featuring crosses, and that in 2007, the Legislature inserted "One State Under God" into the pledge to the Texas flag. The Calvary Hill plate is among about 100 specialty license plates the DMV board has approved since the program's inception two years ago, a spokeswoman said. Last week, the Texas division of the Sons of Confederate Veterans sued the state in federal court for rejecting its proposed specialty plate featuring a Confederate flag. Before the November vote on that plate, Perry spoke out against it, as did many prominent Texas officials and the NAACP.
I want to visit cheny's family homestead.... not the apartment he kept as a post office drop...
and..
the ranch where this happened..
Secret Service agents and medical aides, who were traveling with Cheney, came to Whittington's assistance and treated his birdshot wounds to his right cheek, neck, and chest. An ambulance standing nearby for the Vice President took Whittington to nearby Kingsville before he was flown by helicopter to Corpus Christi Memorial Hospital in Corpus Christi.

Reality Check!
Davy Crockett would have made short work of Sam Houston had they ever had a serious disagreement and squared off one-on-one. That is, had Sam ever been around.
Davy was a man's man, and would have opened up a can of Whuupp-a$$!
After that, Houston would have required medical assistance no doubt, and there just wasn't any at the Alamo to be had. So they would have had to lay him into the back of a wagon, covered him up, and headed off somewhere looking for a doctor. So he STILL would have missed the battle!
Had the battle been managed differently with others running the show, Houston, TX, in all its glory, would have most likely been known as Crockett, TX, forevermore. (Not referring to some little-ville in Texas). Davy would have likely become Governor instead, had he agreed to take the job..
I know the truth hurts, but that's the name o' dat tune!
