Where is it we're living again??

Have you been to "AttackWatch.com" yet?? Or
the other two new websites much like that one?

Here's the scoop on the poop! An important read...

The important issues are: Where is this “snoop technology” coming from? How is it evolving? Why is it popping up in ways which distract the public from attempts to construct a broad-based, government initiative aimed at spying on citizens?

For over two decades, computer experts have been working to get the bugs out of a variety of data-collection systems (telephone records, credit reports, etc.), merging them with data-mining (opinion profiling and dossier-building) operations, and then relaunching them in non-related venues. The current social-networking craze is helping to sell the idea of “reporting” on one’s neighbor and family as a form of entertainment, moving a concept we once recognized as “snooping” ever farther from “spying” in the public mind.

The truth is, President Richard M. Nixon’s infamous Enemies List looks “amateurish” by today’s standards. What we have now would have made Hitler’s and Stalin’s job far more “efficient” at identifying and weeding out adversaries. While America is not lining opponents up before a firing squad, we do have the capability to divert a career path, ruin a reputation, eradicate status, and remove income — all on the basis of a computerized analysis.

The Obama White House tried this once before in 2009 under a different name, when Team Obama sought to rein in criticism of the President’s then-pending health care legislation: “If you get an email or see something on the web about health insurance reform that seems fishy, send it to {email address removed}.” Being issue-specific, it didn’t sufficiently resonate with Obama loyalists, so his PR team is trying again with “Attack Watch.”

Source, along with a Video:

The above video is satirical, but the actual concept is not.

Cute! Snooze at your own peril.

This concept has nothing to do with right vs left. But then you probably didn't read the article or watch the video. So you wouldn't know what its really about.

Bottom line: Left or right, it is highly improper to encourage the public to report each other to the Fed for not being thrilled with an existing administration. There's nothing wrong with dissent, and expressing it has always been the American way.

It has to do with over-stepping the bounds of government and bending the laws of privacy, freedom, and the Constitution, regardless of who is in power. But you'll find its even being received with alarm at many left-wing organizations as well.

However there are always those who would prefer wearing blinders, who just don't want to know such things, and who just keep their fingers crossed..

If that includes you, then good luck!

Actually it started with Nixon, and his infamous "Enemies List", as the article states. But that didn't target average American Citizens. Then Johnson and Clinton. So its not exclusive to any ideology.

Bush/Cheney introduced the Patriot Act, and intense digital scrutiny, and our freedom and liberty began to gradually fade further away.

Only electronic media, databases, websites, coerced influence, encouraging snitches etc, now takes it much, much further than that, into the realm of unacceptable, for a free country.

Sometimes these forums remind me of the Jay Leno Show, when he "Jay-Walks" through the streets of L.A.

"Who's this guy?" (showing a picture of Vladmir Putin)...

"Oh that's easy! I know him. Isn't he on 'Jersey Shore'?"
"Or is it 'Survivor'??"

It'd be hilarious, except some people really are that far out of touch.
And they vote!!

I've never mastered the uncanny mentality of "Don't tell me. I don't wanta know!"

What is it? Another name for the Patriot Act?

I remember the uproar when Bush wanted his Patriot Act. Now it seems there is another uproar with this.

This may come as a shock to you all...but, big brother has been "watching" for a long time. This day and age of technology, if anyone believes their electronic communications haven't been "seen", are very naive.

Either I need to eat breakfast and be able to concentrate on this post, or I really just don't get the "point".

Invasion of Privacy....... am I on the right track?

If so.....can we say that we either give up the liberty of privacy in return for protection, or do we give up protection for privacy? Can we have both?

Imma go eat somepin.....bbl

NoNo.. That's not what this is about. All I can do is encourage you to read the article. Similar rumblings are all over the Net, YouTube, Cable News, numerous printed Media outlets, etc.

Online Privacy went away a long time ago. Mainly post-9/11, the Patriot Act, enhanced surveillance, and access to just about anything, without warrants etc. Not a very pretty picture. But that's another issue entirely.

The primary issue here is creating an online medium urging citizens to turn against each other, and turn any dissenters they know of into the Fed, where they then go into a database of potential enemies, which can be subject to any number of possible repercussions. Its not about terrorists, its about citizens who may be critical of our current leadership. That's not something our leaders ought to be doing with their citizen constituency. It smacks of something well beyond a free and constitutional democracy.

If you haven't heard about this in the Media yet, that would be surprising. But the linked article in the OP explains it in better detail than I can here. I'd encourage anyone to follow the link, or any others like it. The article isn't huge, and it isn't about right vs left. But the situation does involve this administration's choice of activities. Their ideology, or who it is, doesn't matter. Inappropriate practices against citizens, do.

OK, I ate and I get it now :))

I don't even know what to say to this. It infringes on so many rights it boggles the mind. My first impression was that the "Attack Watch" site was merely to clear up any questions related to the Pres. credibility and false claims. Then I saw the "report" an attack. I thought of "freedom of speech" and wondered what I could or could not report.

I have not heard about this in the media. Then again I have been out of the loop for a few weeks. Had to stop watching as my BS bucket was getting full :))

There are many ways to report citizens, this being just another way to do it.

The president's re-election campaign launches a site to respond to "smears" — and conservatives insist he's promoting Nixonian snooping

President Obama's re-election campaign has launched a website called "Attack Watch" to "fight smears" and criticisms from Republicans. The site offers Obama supporters an efficient way to "report an attack," and promises that "when another unfounded attack surfaces, we'll arm you with the truth." Conservative bloggers have mocked the site, saying it makes Obama look like "a creepy authoritarian nut job." Is Attack Watch a sign of paranoia, or just a smart way to spot campaign attacks and nip them in the bud?

nothing like what is really going on in the real world of george orwells...1984....

I read the article, watched the video, btw...after the third "Attack WAAAAAAATCH!!!", I had to turn it off because that is one annoying voice!

So, there is site that "encourages" people to "snitch" about anything bad said about Obama. That's nothing new. Obama has the biggest snitch source available to him called television. All he has to do is watch tv and he will see what his opponents say, all he has to do is surf the net to see what others think of him....this site isn't any different than the forums here because if one of his staff people stumbled onto it and saw half the stuff written, they would be running, probably laughing hysterically, back to him to "report" it.

No, I'm not making light of this. I'm just saying, stuff like this has gone on in politics forever. Before any modern technology, political opponents used spies to get secrets etc....today, the "spy" is now electronic means.

not going to post exerything that I want to here about the OP's worries or motives....... I will just post this..

"Truth fears no question."
Have you ever been ... where you ...hope no one will ask you the tough question, where you will be forced to confront what you have to lie about ...This is a horrible place to be, much less live. But when we are living the truth, we don't fear any questions because we have nothing to hide. This is how I want to live my life....a life of truth and integrity. Where I have nothing to hide in my life, office, home, car and even my mind. (God sees ALL) Are there any things you need to get out in the open or be held accountable for? For many of us, that could be a truly freeing experience and God wants us to live in FREEDOM!

Gallows is as gullible as he ever was. Even back when he was "Simple_Man" and "Feliciti" or whatever. For him its just another right-driven political ploy, like any other, but that's why things like this are never directed at him to inform. Whoosh! Right over his head, overshadowed by overwhelming political influence and indoctrination. No room there for reality.

Blue, the difference is, its not about what, its about who, names and addresses, and about urging the covert reporting of lists of private citizen names who may be in any way opposed to this president's views and activities. And about putting those names into a government database for follow-up later. That doesn't concern you at all?

It smacks of other places and other times we'd rather not recall, and its not a place we want to be in this country of free will, free-speech, and constitutional liberties. Its suppressing free expression, its attempted intimidation, and pushing the envelope to places we've never been before, and to places we don't ever want to go.

But, its value to you is only what you personally make it. Many are outraged, and I share that point of view.
