Hey Folks!
I just wanted to see if anyone out there
likes to play the piano, to relax
for a few minutes after a hard days work.
I know that "Piano Zone" helps me
relax alot.
My labrador, Cheyenne loves it too
and drops herself across the foot
pedals when I play.
I need to practice reading the music more
though. I get lazy because I have an extremely
good ear and can sound out most songs
on the keyboard. I play mostly classical.
I brought this antique piano over Ebay
a few years ago from Chicago.
An upright baby grand built during the
Civil War. The owner had it restored
and the front panels have a beautifully
carved wood lace design. Very elegant.
I can play two Scott Joplin songs.
His music scores are tough! But what a
Jazz genius! Love that old fashioned
saloon music, very upbeat!
Anyone have a Steinway? Are they
really the elite of pianos?
Regards to all, Marilyn

Hi thanks for the welcome!
I'm noticing on these forums and
blogs once you take a stand on
a topic, especially calling a spade a spade
so to speak, people get a little crazy.
Maybe displacing a little bit of their day's
frustration? Do you find that too?
So now we have highway road rage along
with forum email rage....(Ha! Ha!, smile).
Have a good evening...Regards, Marilyn

Hi Sponge:
I bet your grandmother was mentally sharp too!
They say playing musical instruments helps ward
offf old age mental cobwebs from forming (he,he, he, smile)!
I have off this week, school in winter recess.
So I'm trying to teach myself a few more songs.
Right now working on Moonlight Sonata (Beethoven) and
Imagine by our good old deceased hippy, Lennon.
Ciao...Meadowlark

I think Fur Elise was one of my very first classical pieces I learned.
I remember my mother playing it, and I remembered the
melody from that old horror movie with Mia Farrow,
you know "Rosemary's Baby".
Anyway, my mother laughs about this one:
Because I asked her, "Hey mom can you teach me to
play that song "Furry Leaves"...She burst out in laughter...
and I'm still hearing that darn story today...
But I can play it by heart.
Scott Joplin is very hard to play, lots of notes.
The Maple Leaf Rag is so pretty. I think he does not
get enough credit for being such a genius of his day
in American Jazz, don't you?

I always thought it would be cool to play the piano, but unfortunately, the music genes by-passed me.

I used to play all the time but I only play when i am stressed now. Playing to relieve stress only works if you play from the heart (By Ear) and not a sheet of music.

I wish I had time to sit and play. I even own two pianos but life has rather gotten in the way....
Ragtime was always a rollicking favorite, though the Moonlight Sonata forever remains at the top of my list. Some of Michele LeGrand's movie music was as tough as that of any classical composer, but when done properly...what a thrill (rolling five-note chords with each hand...bliss!) I have some very old sheet music of pieces unknown since longer than I have been alive and they are marvels (and sound best on my old player).
