As I browse through the ads, I notice quite a few cities with very strange names. There's Shamong, NJ., Alamogordo, NM., Hephizibah, GA., and Scioto Furnace, OH., to name a few. Are they all for real?? I could do a Google search and find out in about 15 seconds, but I thought this might be more fun. And no, there's nothing weird about Winnemucca, NV.

Well yes there is a George, Washington.
Vantage is a low spot on the Columbia River.
Winchester is full of potato farmers not guns.
Wenatchee is where they raise Pink Ladies.

Coming back from the beach last year, I had to make a "pit stop", and took an exit ramp off the interstate to the rest area. At the stop light, were two signs...Clinton, NC was to the left, and Turkey, NC was to the right! Personally, I think the two towns ought to consolidate!

ALWAYS -- you mentioned Eclectic, Alabama. I don't live too far from there. It is more of a community than a city.
I was raised in Cowpens, Alabama. Very nice country.
I love it, but then again I am a country girl.
Just recently bought a house in the City... UGH!!!
Hate the city--- all the lights, traffic, noise.
I had much rather prefer to live in the country.
Own 100 acres & have a house in the middle of it.
I just like seclusion & privacy.

We had Native Americans here in Florida, and it shows in a lot of the city names:
Apalachicola,
Tallahassee,
Choctawhatchee,
Chattahoochee,
Apopka,
Hialeah,
Pensacola,
and so on.
Then there is Two Egg, Florida....so named, according to stories, because back in the day, people used to barter there for "two eggs' worth" of tobacco, flour, or other stuff.
And finally, there is Howie-in-the-Hills, Florida....don't ask me, I ain't got a clue!
