I'm sure we've all heard by now that 6 major US ports are being outsourced to Dubai. What the f*** for? Bush is literally handing over our country to our enemies on a silver platter. What's even more disturbing? 80% of US ports are currently owned by foreigners! National security my ass.
How about instead of invading countries for oil under the banner of "war against terror," how about we take our country back? Instead of pumping money into war, we should pump it into our domestic security, namely, into taking back our ports!
Who knows what kind of kick-backs Bush is getting for this. Whatever it is, he has certainly bought his rightful place in Hell. That's the only silver lining to this cloud. He's got this country's one foot in the grave, and the other on a banana peel. Our downfall is inevitable. The Roman Empire lasted for 500 years, America has lasted 230, and now we have a f****ing monkey running our country. How much longer do you think we're gonna last?
I certainly hope that someone out there has any information to prove me wrong.

It ain't done yet...The Port deal has been stopped for now
http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/02/24/port.security/index.html
This Port deal won't happen...The People Are getting into it now....We'll tie it up for years... and Bush doesn't have the Veto power now to push it through..

Being literally crime-free is not the only thing that makes the United Arab Emirates one of the most attractive places to live in. Its amazing amalgamation of the traditional values of the East and the modern technologies of the West, being a melting pot of various nationalities and cultures living together and working in harmony and a standard of living that is comparable to the world's most advanced nations makes it one of 20th century's success stories.
The UAE-A Constellation of 7 Stars
The United Arab Emirates is a federation of seven emirates or states, each with its own unique character and personality but yet united with a common goal and destiny. The seven emirates are :
Abu Dhabi Dubai Sharjah
Ajman Umm Al-Qaiwain Ras Al-Khaimah Fujairah

Just found out today that it is actually 21 ports, instead of 6.
The Bush and Saudi familes have been connected for a long time. While he talks about being tough about "The war on Terror", he hobnobs with the Bin laden family and others with direct connections to the very people he claims was responsible for 9-11.
Kind of hard to figure out, isn't it?
Seems like people would stand up and fight against this "globalization" (The New World Order). It is not only moving our jobs to overseas, it is giving our jobs away in our own country. One has to wonder what will be left for us, in the end?

The port deal is over. The Port Authority of New York and the Port Authority of New Jersey have filed lawsuits blocking any deal. It is in breach of the contract that P&O signed with them to sell their holding in the ports there unless it is agreed to by both parties.

^^^We also thought we were done with Iraq after Bush Sr. left office. Didn't think that issue would resurface years later. Like I said before, never underestimate the power of greed.
Though your news is comforting for now. Damn I need a beer.

Sorry, Singapore's also crime-free, but I neither want to live there, nor do I want them running our major ports. The UAE may be our ally, as is Saudi Arabia, but they are also two of the points of origin of the Al Qaeda terrorists of 9/11, unlike Iraq. The UAE was also one of only three countries that recognized the Taliban government of Afghanistan as legitimate.
Frankly, I don't want ANYONE running our ports except ourselves. There certainly seems to be potential for profit here; if so, why don't we reap the profits ourselves? Do we seriously believe we don't have people competent to do this, but have to hire people from anywhere else in the world to do it for us? Speaking of profit, I've read that John Snow, the treasury secretary who was at least partly responsible for making the deal, has ties to Dubai Ports World.
Just saw Exiled's post - thanks. Hope you're right.

I was watching the nightly ABC National News tonight and one of their stories was exactly this topic.
The reporter was doing her story from Dubai. Fact is the port city is bustling, western-oriented, and progressive, nothing like you'd expect in that region of the world. One likened it to Las Vegas without the gambling.
The reporter interviewed all sorts of residents and they said America has nothing to fear from the United Arab Emirates (UAE); that it's not some hotbed for crazy, ultra-religious, suicide bombing nutjobs. Yeah, I'm sure Saudi Arabians said the same thing before 9-11...lol. In fact, two of the 9-11 terrorists were from UAE, and most of the hijackers received money channeled through various sources based in the UAE.
As for why foreigners are seemingly gobbling up American assets? Sorry, but that's been going on for centuries. It all comes down to who puts the money on the table, and since we're all good capitalists, the almighty dollar speaks, no matter what the language.
From a CNN article:
"Earlier this month, shareholders of the U.K.-based Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company (P&O) approved the company's acquisition by Thunder FZE, a subsidiary of Dubai-based Dubai Ports World.
P&O directs commercial operations at the six U.S. ports. The takeover by DPW means that the Dubai company will be in charge of those operations."
According to the business community the deal was proper and done by the book. All the authorizations were collected and safety protocols observed. The company spokesperson in Dubai said the ports will actually run more efficiently once they implement much needed upgrades and better procedures.
No matter, from a PR view the deal was just not gonna fly.
I'm just mystified the Bush administration actually thought this deal would go through without controversy?

The thing is that we need to stop pointing fingers at the party we oppose. While we're pointing fingers, our own party is sneaking around doing exactly the same things we oppose.

This is why during the next presidential election, I'm voting 3rd party. They're probably crooks too, but at least no matter what happens, I can at least say, "Well, at least I didn't vote for that douchebag."

If our current administration, that I do support, takes our military into Iran without the ajoining support of the United Nations, I say the hell with congress and with our government at this time.
If this is all about oil and money our protest of this happening should be with money as well.
If you want to take away the power of a government.
Take away the money.

I agree, but this is a catch-22. After all, money makes the world go 'round, and anyone who denies this is living in an alternate reality that I would LOVE to join. Pass me the pills!
