Ok debates are sometimes fun and usually interesting depending on how one interperts another persons opinions.People debate everything from Politics to Love, Religion etc; etc;.Does anyone ever change anyones mind? Do you ever learn anything from these debates? Or is that even the point of a debate? I guess what I am saying is are debates useful?

I think they are now. The forums used to be taken up by a few chosen ones. And no one else had better cross the elite. Now we can post and actually read others opinions. Are debates useful? Heck yeah! How else are you going to find so many differant opinions in one spot. Some are REALLY differant though. But at least now we CAN debate, not read the flames, insults, and innuendos of the chosen few.

Yes, my mind has been changed listening to a debate.
So has mine. Its like going to school and getting an education.Though I don`t often enter into certain topics of discussion I do read them.I`ve learned a lot of interesting things. And some not so interesting things.

Yes, Tink,, we learn by listening and then reading about the subject. Get to know what/why these people believe what they are saying.
To look at both sides of the question.

I think debates are extremely useful when all parties involved have open minds.... Many of my opinions and thoughts have been changed after a good debate...

Debates on here are interesting, especially about religion. Those who dont claim a religion or dont believe in it all together have many of the same unanswered questions that I do about it.
Most want proof of God and how can there be one with all the evil in this world.Faith to them is not proof.
It is proof to the unanswered questions because those of us that have it are willing by faith to accept the answers when the time comes.
My views about politics change somewhat when I learn about that which I never knew.I'll make my stand on a subject but because of ignorance I will change that stand when I have learned more about it.
Opinions are fine, everyone has their own. Those who provide fact to strengthen their opinions or answer questions posed to them with fact generally win a debate and will alter my view about it.

I have learned a lot from everyone here. I do get adamant when I believe I have a good point or am trying to teach. Maybe I don't state it well because I'm used to dealing with doctors, lawyers and politicians.I don't like fighting, but will stand my solid ground. I don't change my mind about politics-the best person should win. I don't change much on religion-I believe. I have changed some on how I feel about military, society, but mostly I see what people like in their lives and in each other. Just think-if you come here and start talking away, you could meet someone who already knows where you stand on some important things. Then you can move on to the fun ones!

I don`t like fighting either..but I will stand firm in my beliefs and if my integrity is questioned I will respond.
Stand firm I say!..Until you slip and fall on your face that is..

a good debate should be able to entertain if not enlighten a person. there have been plenty of debates where the issues were put aside but then there are those few that open your eyes and bring out things that were in the dark until then.

Uh....Tink???? Didn't we DO a Viagra thread somewhere already?????
All kidding aside, a good, lively debate where everyone "agrees to disagree" and expresses their opinions in an atmosphere of mutual respect is absolutely wonderful. It's interesting to hear others' opinions and find out how they arrived at them. It's educational. AND there have been at least a couple of threads that, after reading the OP, I was ready to jump right in...but I read what everyone else had posted first, and realized I had a LOT to think about first.
So yes - I think they're great! And I'm willing to debate anyone that thinks differently!!!!!

Yes, I've changed my mind as a result of debates...my mind's so open that I wonder if I don't have a hole in my head. If so, I think it's too late to worry about it; better to keep an open mind than to let it stagnate...
