Why is it that most people judge a person by there looks or size? Its just not on here, but every place. I even had one woman tell me that i would be a nice looking guy if i lost some weight. Needless to say that i told the b--ch where to go. It's not the outside that makes a person, it's the inside that does.

We let television and society teach us how to judge by beauty... it sucks, but we kind of promote it ourselves don't we?

Jafwerb772 The average person would rather have beauty than brains, because they know the average person can see much better than , they can think

papabear62, Those kind of people have no idea what beauty is, much less what would make someone more beautiful. They are the ones who will be either alone trying to search for perfection all their lives.

It is said that your not to judge a book by its cover but its the first thing you see before you decide as to whether or not you want it.
We question ourselves when we look at things.
Do I want to be seen with that?
Does that want to be seen with me?
Initial judging is done by what you see...first impressions are made.
You cannot see what is inside someone, that you have to learn about.

Even though we all have our personal tastes, it takes a shallow person to not look beyond what they see.

I agree Lori, thats why these forums provide a small way for anyone to look beyond what they see about another.

Its all good....theres alot of people that have the FAT body pretty face syndrome.I believe I have heard that atleast 500 times myself. It is actually easy to avoid people being shallow out here atleast...its called,IGGY! As i say people like that would be lucky to find true love. At some point in everyones life you will get wrinkled, saggy, hairy or bald and whats left...your inside!

Online I don't judge people by their looks but by their grammar. Guess you lose that one as well, eh? This must cause you some confusion Jessa, since your self-confessed dislike of anyone non-American must make a grammatically-correct non-American a paragon of confusion for you. Poor thing.
As for the original question, we all are guilty of this to some degree, it's almost impossible not to be. If I see a skinhead, covered with Union Jack tattoos and a slogan on his T-shirt saying "There's no Black in the Union Jack, get back get back get back", I am going to automatically assume that he's a racist scumbag, without allowing for the possibility that he's on the way to a fancy-dress party. And as regards look, weight, size etc, some people are simply not attracted to bigger men or women, and that is not a criticism of those people, it's only a matter of personal preference. It doesn't mean that they cannot love these people as friends, only that there is no physical attraction. However, the lady that said you would be good-looking if you lost some weight is quite obviously a nasty, condescending and thoughtless woman, and you were fortunate to discover that before wating any more time on her!

Papa--I'm right there with ya...BUT, I believe that what comes around goes around and mean people eventually get what's coming to them.
Oh, and I believe in the Easter Bunny too.

I have met some very attractive people, who after I got to know them became very unattractive. Works the other way, too.

papabear, I take pity and really feel sorry for those that are only looking for superficial beauty, they are missing out on knowing some wonderful people. Beautiful people can be downright ugly inside and that is what is important, what we have inside us.

In high school it seems to be a status thing.
"Hey look at me, I'm walking around with this hot guy/girl, I must be pretty great"
What I say about that is: Yeah...looks are a great thing to have and they might even get you somewhere....but as you age, they will go away. If you've got a good heart and a good mind...when you're 60 you will still have a good heart and good mind, at least most of the time. Beauty does not stay around, do not rely on it to get you anywhere.
If you think about it...the most revolutionary women of our times have not been particularly physically attractive:
Susan B Anthony
Eleanor Roosevelt
Margaret Thatcher
Madeleine Albright
Janet Reno
Condoleezza Rice
Hillary Clinton (not ugly but not a sexbomb, either)
Janis Joplin
Yoko Ono (if you deny that she was revolutionary or important, we've gotta talk)
Queen Elizabeth
Personally, I think this is because from childhood these women have been given other compliments other than "AWW YOU'RE SO PRETTY!!" They've been taught to hone other talents other than their appearance. The same is with me. For years I was an awkward pre-teen and an awkward teenager. I looked like a hobbit (not from the LOTR movies, from the books). People called me a "Troll". I worked on my other talents. I've got an IQ of 151 and in some ways I am more mature than all of these people who said these things about me.

LipGloss...you are right, beauty fades with time, for both men and women, except for the minority that age gracefully. I was married to a great looker, but he lied, cheated, and abused (friends and family), even his family didn't want to be around him...wish I knew his family first, then would have been onto him.
