Debra LaFave is a female teacher who had sex with her fourteen year old student. I think she's in her twenties. Anyhow.....she just went through court, and her case was dropped. She is bipolar, but her case was not dropped because of the insanity plea....she stated that she knew what she was doing was wrong.

Here's why her case was dropped. She is a tall, thin, blonde-haired, blue eyed sexbomb. She's absolutely gorgeous. There seems to be some sort of double standard where a female pedophile can get away with her crime, if she's beautiful. If this were a man, he could be facing 25 years, and rightly so. This woman should be in jail, too.

A lot of people are saying "Are you crazy? Any fourteen year old boy would kill to have sex with a hot teacher like that!!" With logic like this, these people are giving PERMISSION for men to think with their penises, not their brains, and with this argument, a rapist could blame his victim for being "hot".

I have to agree with you LipGloss, she should without a doubt be in jail!! And you are right, if it were reversed and it was a male teacher with a female student, he would be kissing his a** goodbye right now. Just goes to show you how warped things can be in our justice system!!

Glossy,
You are spot on. That is exactly why she received the non sentence... I worked with predators and victems for 18 years.

If I'm not mistaken, it was dropped because the judge refused the plea deal which would prevent the boy from having to testify. My understanding is the prosecutor is trying to protect the boy, not the perpetrator.

so letting her off was a better option? funny you don't hear about prosecutors protecting "female" victims from testifying

Cyn--after reading this post it appeared that I was directing it at you...and I was not. It just irritates me when things like this happen.

Oh, no, no, not at all. I understand your position, and agree with it. I was just pointing out that the prosecutor is apparently considering and trying to protect the victim.

I thought the Mary Kay Letourneau case would have set some precedence in illegal sex acts with a child. But in this case, even the boy's mother didn't want him going through anymore publicity. Plea deal was rejected, but they are going to trial April 10th.

She does not get prison time, but she has three years house arrest, seven years of probation, and loses her teaching license. These result from a case in a different county, of her having had sex with the same boy. So it was dropped in Marion County, but she was sentenced in Hillsborough County.

I am not saying that is enough, just saying that she is getting some type of punishment/sentence.

The judge rejected the plea bargain (in Marion County) that would have kept her out of prison, but then the prosecutor decided to drop the charges rather than make the boy testify, after psychiatrists testified that it would be harmful for him.

There are so many things wrong with that woman being in a classroom to begin with let alone the sex thing.

I haven't been keeping up with the story. What reason did they state that her case was dropped?

exiled....you'd actually at fourteen have sex with a teacher at the risk of that teacher losing her job?

and the excuse that the teacher was hot so how could he resist is so, so bloody ridiculous....i stated why in my post.

A lot of people are saying "Are you crazy? Any fourteen year old boy would kill to have sex with a hot teacher like that!!"

This is something that should remain strictly a fantasy in the minds of 14 year old boys. At 14, the boy still has not reached the age of maturity where HE knows what's best for him. Adults, supposedly, HAVE reached that age. LaFave is an adult, and bipolar or not, she knew what she was doing, knew that it was wrong - and did it anyway. I don't care if it's a reasonably attractive female with a young male child, or a butt-ugly male with a young female child, the fact remains that an adult conducted him/herself in a manner in which they should not have. I believe in equality of the sexes. If the butt-ugly man would have gotten 25 years behind bars, so should LaFave.....IMHO.....

Just as a FYI....I was a senior in high school and this young lady, all of 22 or 23, was our math teacher. There were rumors then that a couple of the jocks in school had gone out with her. They weren't true, but just the thought when I heard that stopped me dead in my tracks. I just could NOT imagine a teacher and student getting together in that manner - and this was when she would have been 22 and he would have been 18....20 years later, the age difference would not have even come up in conversation. But back then - not only an age difference, but a world of difference in both experience and level of authority. It would have been wrong for her to do that then....it's even more wrong to do far more with someone far younger.

With this type of crime that most serve is only about 2-4 years in a 20-25 year conviction. On Wednesday a female teacher was convicted of same crime in W. Virginia. She serving a 20 year sentence with serving no less than 4 years on a plead of guilty to sexual assault to more than one student age 14 years with a contribute to delinquency of a minor. She is also married. And she's scary looking...

With the LaFave case, the student would not testify against her, so that is why she is not serving prison time.

At 14 he is a child, the fact that he would be a willing participant or not is besides the point. Heck, a lot of 14 year olds also want to drink, do drugs or drive a car, but we don't let them and we certainly don't cheer them on if they do.

What bothers me is that we put our young children in the hands of teachers and trust they're getting a good education. There are so many threats to kids these days, you want to think school is a safe place for them.

As a Mom of 3 sons I would be have been enraged if this had happened to one of them. It's a violation on many levels.

A couple of thoughts I had :

What if the woman had been an overweight , hairy, butt ugly 50 year old woman, what would all the " cheerleaders" be saying ?

Why is it we don't call these women pedophiles ?

I agree LipGloss. The gender of the predator should make no difference. She should have gone to jail, period.

Yep your right and she's getting off with a slap on the wrist. Not to mention with a book deal, and a spread in playboy (you know the playboy thing is coming).

I just remembered watching a trial recently, where the judge added a stipulation to the womans deal. Stating she couldn't profit off the trial book, movie, etc. The judge should of added the same stipulation with her.
