I'm having surgery, nothing major, but nothing minor, tomorrow. My kids are at dads, and I'm pretty much alone tonight. And I'm a nervous wreck. I know I should be brave, strong and tough...but I'm finding out I am none of these things alone! In front of people I'm laughing and joking around, but now that I'm alone I'm feeling kind of like the worlds biggest wimp.
Rumor has it they'll be giving me something first thing to relax me, then putting me to sleep for an hour, and I should be released a couple hours after that. (My dad is bringing me home.) So again, it's not all that bad. I'm just that much of a baby.
Anyone else gone through this?

I think we all go through it to a certain degree. I'm the biggest wimp in the dentist chair. Sweaty palms and all...

You're not a wimp!!! It perfectly natural to be frightened. I was the same way when I had surgery. All fun and laughter on the outside and a mess on the inside. It's a scary thing to go thru. Just keep yourself occupied and try not to dwell on it. Hard I know, but try. You can waste away an entire evening here in the forums!!!!  I wish you the best of luck and a very speedy recovery. Keep you chin up....you'll do just fine...you are a woman after all and if we can survive childbirth....everything else is a piece of cake!!!!!  Keep us posted as to how you do. Hang in there!!!

Yep, join the club. Just had my third in two weeks this morning, and I'm a wimp too. Had a lot of prayers from people here (the Comfort room thread, as well as Randomness in Surveys and Quizzes)...and you can count on mine.

Awwwww, thank you...you ladies are like the cavalry, right there in the nick of time. I actually do feel a lot, well, a little better. Actually, the reason, they think, I'm going through this is because of c-sections (three) and adhesions...if that's not the problem we continue on until we figure it out lol.
By then I should be an old pro, it's just been a few years since I had surgery, and I was married at the time, so even though he didn't lift a finger, I felt a little more courage. If nothing else, he always made me believe I had more strength than I believed I did. Either that or he nipped the whinning in the bud so I didn't allow myself to feel bad lol.
Anyway, thanks...I need a little extra courage, would help if the kids were here or I could talk to them, but therein lies a whole other story *grins*.

Good luck with it, Cyn. I had my gall bladder out a few years ago, and no one was with me. Just had to go by myself (daughter dropped me off, brother-in-law picked me up).
All I can say is, "this too shall pass"... just try not to worry about it. Yeah, they give you something, and they might even ask you to count backwards....but you probably won't get far before you're "out like a light." 
Then, before you know it, you'll wake up and it'll all be over! Yaaay!

Cyn, going it alone is never easy, i know i've done it many times. But think about it this way.....you'll only have you to focus on and not have to worry if you are being a pain  j/k.......really the peace and quite can be a blessing sometimes and besides when they take you in you'll have some of the best on your side, the team working on you and the Big Man over seeing it. SO enjoy your solo night and pamper yourself and think of it as a special evening that you get to enjoy your own company! What else is better than your company now, think about it...
Have a peaceful sleep and tell them to give you plenty of don't feel a thing or care drugs...

I just got out of a 24 hour hospital deal. (I thought I would be there alone but my Mom showed up, then my son, and he refused to leave me in the hospital alone so he slept on my floor. He's such a sweetie.)
You are NOT a wimp. When we are little, and also now when a little older and wiser, medical things are scary. You can be scared!
And you will be fine, I just know it!

Not just a rumor hon!! They give something to relax you because people do get nervous before surgeries, no matter how minor the surgery is. It's perfectly natural and normal to be nervous and there's absolutely nothing whimpy about it!!

Good luck Cyn, you will do fine. I know those words are little comfort now. We are all thinking of you. If you are like me the medicine they give you to relax really does it's job well. Shortly after taking it you won't have a care in the world and like SylvanDreams said they might ask you to count backwards from 10. You won't make it far and the very next thing you will be aware of is that the surgery is over with. Don't forget you are in our thoughts and prayers.

Hey G/F!!! You poor baby!  Surgery sucks--no matter what it is.  I'm thinking good thoughts for you, and praying it is over in a hurry.
I think we should start taking bets to see what number you get to, before you pass out from the drugs. I say you'll make it to the count of FOUR.
If your anesthesiologist is a good looking guy, you'll probably have only about four seconds to flash him, before you slip into sleep.
Get a good night's sleep, Cyn. We're all going to be here waiting to hear how you're doing, so get back on your feet quickly.

Wow, you guys really got me through the night...and believe me it was a long one. Two hours and eight minutes to go before I'm there, but whose counting?
