How many of you drive while on the cell phone? What do you think of people who drive while on the cell phone?(mostly the ones who aren't using a head set)
Anyone have problems with someone who was on a cellphone while driving?

i used to hate those people who were on the cell phone, they would always stay in the passing lane doing only 50mph when it is a 65mph zone. now i'm sorry to say that i am one of those people!

noooooooo, say it isn't sooo..lol
I can't stand it when people on them run stop signs or lights, don't pay attention to who goes first at the four way stops and swerve into my lane while they are turning because they have one hand on the wheel and are in an 'animated' conversation. I've almost been hit by so many around this area, and I have to admit that most of them are teens and younger women doing it.

My experiences have been more like....someone who was on a cellphone while ATTEMPTING to drive!!
Unfortunately, in a few years, the stats are probably going to show that the cell phone users are the ones to cause the accidents but not be involved....like the drunks cause accidents but usually walk away unhurt by the wreck!!

that drives me crazy, too. some yuppie (or wannabe) driving n some SUV tank w/a phone glued 2 the ear as they run ppl off the road. ya know, b4 cellphones it was messing w/the radio or trying 2 backhad one of the kids.
some ppl can't multi-task. i can, but i still dont romp up n down the street w/my phone hanging off my ear. i wonder if these yo-yos think it makes them look hip. dang, everybody has a phone! its nothing new anymore.
miss manners had an article on the internet about ppl inadvertently overhearing conversations. geez, y can't they just text msg 2 their buddies about being n the store, the library, getting an enema -- whatever.
laws that prohibit cellphone use miss the point. certain individuals cant do more than one thing at a time. when someone wrecks because of their phone, throw the proverbial book n phone at them.

My phone is turned off when I'm in the car. I used to talk on it while I was driving but I had too many close calls.

Buni,
I think eveyone at one time or another has had an experience with someone trying to drive while on a cell phone. I had an experience with a person that cut across 3 lanes of traffic to make a left turn, you guessed it, he was on the phone. Then they give you this smile, or might I say a S***eating grin, to say OOPS, sorry about the 4 car pile up, I'll be more careful next time.

In '97 I bought a new car off the dealer lot and had it only three days when I was rear ended by a guy in a plumbing and heating van who was not only talking on his cell, but had a map unfolded across the steering wheel. At least with a headset or handsfree device you have both hands on the wheel and your peripheral vision isn't impaired by lack of movement from holding a phone to your head. Over the years I've noticed there are more and more distractions that we're allowing to interfere with our ability to operate a vehicle safely. Everything from cell phones to portable dvd players and those god awful blinding LED billboard signs. Newer cars which are easier to drive give new drivers a false sense of security and belief in abilities they don't posess. When I moved from Maryland two years ago they were lobbying to make mobile cell phone use a traffic violation if the person was manually holding the phone and not using a hands free.

I dont have a problem with those who use cellphones while driving.Truckers have been communicating similar to that for years.I dont blame pisspoor driving on cellphones, theres just alot more pisspoor drivers on the road now adays.
There is a plus to cell phone use while driving.
With one hand on the wheel and the other holding the phone,it makes it a tad harder for them to flip you the bird.

I don't drive and talk on a cell phone! Heck I don't even have one to talk on any more. So, what did people do BEFORE cell phones?

Seeing someone drive while using a cell phone without a hands-free device just makes me want to become a cop so I give these people the traffic citations they deserve.

I think it should be illegal to drive while talking on a cell phone without an ear piece or other hands free device. I cannot count the number of times that I have had to pass people on the interstate on the right because they were cruising the passing lane (the lane fartherst left for those of you who don't know and there ARE people who don't know). 95% of the time when I come around them and look they are chattering away without a hands free device and going 10 miles under the speed limit.
I do think that talking is fine as long as you DO have a hands free device. It's certainly no worse than messing with the radio, getting into your music, singing along... just don't do it if you find yourself distracted from your primary endeavor and that is is to drive your car in a safe manner.

It is illegal in New Jersey and New York. There may be other states as well.

You're right, summer...
Also, Connecticut and the District of Columbia have enacted jurisdiction wide bans on driving while talking on hand-held phones, except in specific situations.
Ten states (Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Tennessee and Texas) and DC restrict the use of cellular phones by teens in the graduated licensing system.
If you want to see where I got this information and read more about the enacted restrictions, go to:
http://www.statehighwaysafety.org/html/stateinfo/laws/cellphone_laws.html
Stay safe everyone!
