Loreli, why should we celebrate a Mexican holiday that has nothing to do with the U.S?

Lots of people will celebrate anything, just to enjoy life and be festive.

But, it is a holiday to people who are friends of mine, and doing the whole pinata thing at school is just a way to teach elementary school kids about other cultures.
Is that ok with you?

It was just a question as to why. Anyone should be able to celebrate as they wish as an individual. However, celebrating it in schools when Christmas celebrations are being denied by the schools, HELL NO!

I agree with you on the Christmas thing, Dave. It makes me madder than heck.
But stooping to others levels just makes us as bad.
The kids are going to learn other cultures anyway.
So, happy May 5th to you.

Atone.... I'm afraid you are mistaken here... Cinco de Mayo is equivalent to our 4th of July!

Cinco de Mayo is a date of great importance for the Mexican and Chicano communities. It marks the victory of the Mexican Army over the French at the Battle of Puebla. Althought the Mexican army was eventually defeated, the "Batalla de Puebla" came to represent a symbol of Mexican unity and patriotism.

So drink with Jose and don't forget your lime!
Happy Birthday Chicago!!!!!!!!!

It is in celebration of the battle of Puebla, where the natives and the European army fought traitor armies. (I admit I looked it up-I always took it as an Independence Day sort of thing. The site also told me that the thinner and smaller the pepper, the hotter it is, so, who'dathunk I would get that education! I)
Now I know what to plant in my garden!
