This is very disturbing, but important information.
Type in your home address or a family members' address. The web site
will bring up a map of your neighborhood with small colored boxes on it.
The small House icon represents your address; the colored boxes
represent sex offenders in your area.

Click on the colored boxes and it will bring up the offender's
photograph and the exact address, names and employers.

Thanks for the link. Having 2 younger kids....I want to keep them as safe as possible. I already have another service that alerts me to any registered sex offenders that move within 5 miles of my home. Seems like I'm getting notified at least once a week. Didn't realize there were THAT many in my own town. Going to check this one out and see what it has to say. Pretty scary world out there.....can never be TOO careful.

Just as a matter of reference, teeagers who have younger (underage) girlfriends and have been 'busted' by the girls parents often wind up with a lifetime record as a sex offender -- many of these lists or states don't discriminate between "degrees" of the offense...or the age when it happened.

(btw, whizzing in public -- and being caught -- can also be a "sex offense" in some states: "public exposure of the genitals". I don't mean to imply that the lists aren't useful, especially for pervs(!!), but it's also important to not jump the gun, to perhaps delve a bit deeper and get the full story if the offense isn't outlined specifically)

As Sunbabe says, the registry doesn't specify the degree or nature of the offence, which could wrongly see someone ostracized by a zealous parent. The National Sex Offender Database isn't accessible by the public and likely for the very reason stated above. It is also not linked to the American Sex Offender Database nor is the information shared between the two countries about sex offenders. The Canadian site shows face pictures and offence but no further info. Disclosing that would violate the Canadian Charter of Rights which would likely be one of the reasons the info isn't shared across our borders. Personally I think if you're convicted of a sexual offence (depending on degree ) you lose your rights to privacy.

I'd be just as concerned about the sexual predators who are not on that registry but ultimately it's up to parents to educate their kids on this subject, no matter how uncomfortable it might be.

Giving kids knowledge empowers them to help protect themselves.

Here is a Canadian site which lists some offenders that are "wanted".

http://www.rcmp.ca/wanted/index_e.htm

already know who most of the offenders are...most of them have been deported back to Mexico where they belong

Do you know all the "priests" and "Fathers" who are also guilty as well? They're just as culpable. Most sexual offenders are known to the victim. So it's your next door neighbour, the principal, the grocery store clerk, police officer or that nice baseball coach.

They aren't from Mexico. And they aren't on any registries.

Funny how predators come in all shapes, sizes and colors

I asked my son about the boy I mentioned that he graduated with and was on the football team I coached who was on that list.
He was guilty of Third-Degree Sexual Assault for beating up his younger sister.

Jankia I'm not clear here on that statement>?

He's guilty of third degree sexual assault for beating up his sister? Physical assault is different from sexual, which I'm sure you know.

Why is it listed as "sexual" when "beating" is usually physically attacking ie: punching kicking etc.

Those are two different acts Jankia.

Please explain?

I have the same questions wicked, but I only know what my boy told me and he might not know it all either.
There is more to it than I do know because Wyatt also told me that kid was arrested for other offenses including selling drugs within 1000 ft of the school.
His parents home is near the school.
I also think in my state you can be charged third degree sexual assault for just touching a lady inappropriatly.

Jankia you were right about those laws you mentioned.

Fourth Degree Sexual Assault is a misdemeanor and is defined as sexual contact with a person without consent of that person. The penalty for fourth degree sexual assault is imprisonment not to exceed nine months or a fine not to exceed $10,000, or both
.

Here is a URL for the degrees/defintions of sexual assault.

http://danenet.wicip.org/dcccrsa/saissues/handbook/law.html

Third Degree Sexual Assault is a felony and is defined as sexual intercourse with a person without consent of that person. The penalty for third degree sexual assault is imprisonment not to exceed five years or a fine not to exceed $10,000, or both

I'm glad to see this one in particular. There are still folks out there that maintain although they are married, the wife has an "obligation" to service her husband and the husband "enforces" it.

Spouses -- Marriage is not a bar to prosecution for sexual assault. A person may be prosecuted for sexually assaulting his/her spouse
.

If I may Jankia? There was some other info that might be useful as well. Demographics etc. Hope you don't mind but it's in context with your topic. The stats are about ten years old but still valid so that people can get a perspective on just how often sexual assault occurs and by whom.

These are from Jankia's neck of the woods:

http://danenet.wicip.org/dcccrsa/saissues/wisc1995.html

AGE

Seventy-five percent of all sexual assault victims were under 18. Over 68% were 15 years old or younger.
The average age of sexual assault offenders was 25, 10 years older than the average victim.

GENDER
Males committed 93.3% of offenses. 84% of victims were female.
67.9% of assaults against males were committed by other males; 32.1% by females.
98.1% of assaults against females were committed by males; 1.97% by other females.

RELATIONSHIP

92% percent of all assaults were committed by someone known to the victim, while 8% were committed by strangers.
Family members committed 21.3% of assaults.
Sexual partners committed 13.2% of reported assaults.
57.7% were acquaintances or other known individuals. {This would be the category I referred to in my earlier post "Do you know all the "priests" and "Fathers" who are also guilty as well? They're just as culpable. Most sexual offenders are known to the victim. So it's your next door neighbour, the principal, the grocery store clerk, police officer or that nice baseball coach. }
The remaining 7.7% were strangers.

Like I said it's the ones that are still outside that are more scary.

I hope this never happens to anyone but even as I sit here and type this I know full well that someone who has either posted on this thread or read it has been a victim. It's that insidious.

Thank you for bringing this up Jankia. My son thanks you too.

Wicked, the trouble with the US is that EACH STATE has a different definition of what they consider "sexual assault" and how serious each charge is rated. One state considers it RAPE if an under-age girl is touched on her BUM! Seriously!... (which allows charges to be brought against someone as innocent as a teacher or bus driver or scout leader or coach who "scoots" a kid along with a pat on the hiney, something we've ALL done with our own kids without even thinking)

You're absolutely right Sunbabe. I have "scooted" my son along with that action and I've done it to other kids as well. Teachers have to be sooo careful about any kind of physical interaction with the kids these days. Almost to a point of silly.

I've had this discussion before and from state to state it varies whether a woman can even deny her husband sex.

In Canada it's consistent pretty much across the board which I'm thankful for. It's a bit more indepth as it translates across all the ages and is fully encompassing.
