I just took my nightly walk. As I have done for years now, whenever I come to a wide part of the road, instead of just walking in a straight line, I'll walk side to side, so that I can increase how far I walk without actually having to go as far from where I live(Makes sense!). I've done this for years.
TONIGHT, however, I was just finishing up my side to side stretch of road, when a car approached.... a POLICE CAR! The guy got out, and asked me if I was alright. I said, "Yeah!". Some ASSHOLE actually called the police on me because I was walking side to side on the road!!! I told the cop that I've been doing this for years and until THEN, NO ONE has ever saiid anything about it! And I KNOW what the cop was thinking... that I was either drunk or crazy. People have NOTHING better to do with their time. 
Well, since I know what stretch of road I was on when whomever called the cops, I'm going back again TOMORROW night and do it all damned night! Actually, there's a possibility that someone from the local rescue squad called the cops, because anyone who was looking down the road from the RS building could've seen me coming from a considerable distance away.
People are so damned weird.

hmm, strange.
If you've lived there for a long time and have been doing the same walk for years, it doesn't make sense they would stop and ask if you're okay, unless it's a new person in the area that hasn't met you before. I would've asked who called it in.

Obviously, whomever called it in has absolutely no life! Had I seen you but didn't know it was your nightly ritual, I would have been intrigued and would have watched for you at the same time on the following night. If you showed up again, I would simply have to say hello and find out the reasons behind your seemingly odd behavior. I might even tell my friends about you... but, really... the cops?
I can fully understand the reasoning behind your walking style. I sometimes ride my bike in circles just to add miles to my ride so I don't have to go so far from home... perfect sense. I think the main thing in your story that would have angered me is just a general infringement on your freedom. Who gives a sh*t if you walk like that? Right? Who felt it their duty to report you? How dare they make such a harsh judgement and broad assumption? You can do what you want as long as you aren't harming anyone.

very practical, effective and funny
this reminds me of my physics teacher in high school who said something similar which I think is reasonable, that when he's climbing a steep hill, he reduces or shortens the length of his pace so as not to get tired so quick..."conservation of energy" was the topic of that class.
People are so damned weird.
yeah I agree. instead this should have made you famous in your area...since you've been doing it for years....the side-to-side walker, huh?

You should have just tied a couple of milk jugs full of water to your ankles. That way you make the same walk without having to increase the distance and look like a fruitloop walking back and forth across the road..

Tonight, I went for my walk. I went the same route tonight, and did my side to side walk routine. No one bothered me tonight, though I MIGHT know who called the cops on me. That's not to say that I actually KNOW the person, but rather where they live. To hell with 'em.

Ironically, the person that I think called the cops has one of those damned yappy-ass wire-haired terriers, and tonight, just like LAST night, the person let that dog out so it could run up to the fence and bark at me.

Hi Stormy, sounds like whoever called the police, is a very narrow minded person, that cannot grasp what we called "Snap" in the late 60's and early 70"s.
They cannot stop and think oh, he's just walking, but instead their mind is racing, but in a way to where someone can't slap them, and say hey man, use some snap man, think!! The guys just out walking.
They are probably alone, and just sit around and imagine things. In my neighborhood i wouldn't think anything of someone walking 4 houses up, then walking 4 houses down by opposite way of the street. Even if they were talking to themselves, i wouldn't give a sh.... Now if they answered themselves i might worry about them or feel sorry for them, but still so what???
I wouldn't think nothing of it, now if they walked up and down the sides of my house, and had weapons and looked nuts, i might call police, but when you walk, you change sides of the street i'm thinking so traffic can see you from that walking direction, which in my mind right there would tell me you were okay!!!!
But back to whoever called the police on you, i would be leary of walking by their house anymore, because the way their mind is limited to focus. they may let their mind race and shoot themselves, or something..They are nuts..Sometimes i walk around in my front yard and fuss at sh i'm mad about, because my daughter parks to where she keeps blocking in two of my cars, but i cut it short and shrug my shoulders, my neighbors, just think , oh he can't get his other car out again, but they don't freak out or anything...Earl

Hey Stormy unless ya was nekkied while ya was WALKING you are not doing anything wrong (was ya nekkie??   ) hey tonight try SKIPPING back and forth or DANCING the hustle back and forth complete with pinting to the sky and ground like John Travolta or wait CARTWHEELS!! yeah cartwheels would work.. that and youd work out youre arms too hehe and if ya REALLY wanna SHOCK the neighbor?? wear skin colored tights with a loincloth and when you hear the THUD (from them fainting/falling) when you cartwheel and your loin cloth flips up you will KNOW whos been spying on you!!!
