Why do people think this looks good? I don't.
I want to grab tongue studs and twist them 360 degrees with my fingers, and yank the exposed underwear up like a wedgie till it rips. Does anyone else ever have the desire to hook a chain onto an eyebrow piercing and yank it out?
I think this stuff is ugly and these type of people might be begging for attention in the wrong way.
What does self mutilation do for a person? How does it make them attractive? Is this for pity partiers?
What's up?

Both of my sons have an eye brow ring. I see nothing wrong with it.

I walked into a gas station, and the attendant had a faceful of studs, etc...
so I asked her... "Tacklebox explosion?"
the rest of the store, laughed, and laughed... the next time I was in the store she had removed most of her jewelry...

It doesn't make it attractive in my eyes, but then I'm an ol' coot, but not necessarily with old, unbending ways.
Appearance is very important to me. Making a good first impression is very important, also. There's nothing worse then to go to a nice restaurant and your server comes to the table with a hoop hanging from their nose and lisping when they speak because of the tongue studs. Very nasty!! I do not patronize that restaurant again.
It's that every one else is doing it mentality. In this day and age with all this piercing going on, not to mention the red and otherwise odd shades of hair color,,a young person who is well coiffed, nicely dressed and well groomed stand out in the crowd of these that are in the herd mentality.
At the university where I work I try to lead by example. I'm complimented almost every day by a student on my appearance. The guys comment on how I look pulled together. I think, gals, if you just took sometime with yourselves you too would stand out.
Each era had a fad or two, but it seems today no one takes pride in themselves.
How will some of these people ever transition into the business world?
Have you ever been in a public place and observed people? I often come away saying to myself, I wonder if they have a mirror in their homes!!

My rule of thumb is for any tatoo or piercing, I shouldn't have to explain it while in a professionally environment.
For me as a man, this means the tat need to be no lower than the elbow and below the collar line. Any where else is acceptable.
I don't think guys should tatoo their legs, but that's a preference not a rule.
Women...hmmm different ball of wax since so much of a female's body can be politely displayed in the work place.
Sleeveless blouses with deep cut backs or fronts are aaceptable, and bare midriffs are sometimes allowed as well. And, thank God, shirts seem to get shorter and shorter.
I find women particularly sexy if they have a spinal tatoo peeking out from their waistline or an ankle tat under their hose.
Along the same lines, I know several women who keep their arms covered so they don't have to explain their self inflicted scars.
Tongue rings mean one thing to me: aid for felacio. I've never kissed a kissed a girl with a tongue ring, but it telegraphs a more daring side.
For the record, my blue wolf tat is on my rightt deltoid.

If I were interviewing someone for a job, there is no way I would hire some of these kids that come in. You can't understand what they are saying because of their tongue piercings. Plus most of them keep rolling their tongue around as they flick the tongue stud against their teeth. It drives me crazy! Right or wrong, first impressions do make a difference. Take out some of the piercings and pull up your dang pants!!

I agree Striving.... I don't like them either.
I think they look tacky, that is why I don't have them.
But if that is what they want .. more power to them!

we all had styles and fads that drove our parents and the older generation crazy and they thought we were sick, nuts and stupid.....lol
but even with that said 1st impressions do count in the business world especially.....what's hip and the thing now as far as tats and piercing go are permanent without serious medical interventions later on the average.....so my comment is what are you going to look like when you are 35, 45, 55 or 65 with that art work so to speak and will it fit into to the business culture you want to work in after you've pass your teens and early 20's?

Each to their own, it is just like everything else, to some people it is attractive and to others it is not. Personally I don't like lots of piercings or tattoos, but I certainly wouldn't suggest that it is for only "pity partiers".

Pity partiers??? How in the world does having a tattoo interpret to wanting to be pitied??? I have two and my daughter has one (along with 2 piercings in one ear and 3 in the other). I think it's shallow minds that cause the stereotyping of people.
Let me tell ya a quick story. Last summer my son and I travelled to Wisconsin to visit a friend. From there, a group of friends and us, travelled to Minnesota for a get together. All bikers. All with tattoos and piercings and leather. As we were leaving from the weekend we stopped at the gas station to fill up the bikes. A woman was sitting in a van not more than 10 feet from the gas pumps trying to get her van started. It wouldn't. She had 2 small children in the back seat. The guys we were with noticed and went over to offer help (just because they are that nice). The woman was appalled at their appearance and seemed very afraid of what they wanted. She unrolled her window only about 2 inches. When the guys pushed her van up to the pump, pumped her gas, and then helped her get her van started again, she didn't even bother with a "thank you". She just dropped it in gear and sped away from the gas station without looking back. Perhaps her shallow mind was too busy stereotyping all the tattoos and piercings to realize that they are people too and no different than you and me.
I think I'll invite them all over here next month so we can sit down and have a "pity party" together.

Right on Always Striving, you are exactly correct and that was hilarious grumblebear!
Hey is that what they call heavy metal Grumble?
I think they have no self identity and need to copy or follow trends and a secure together person would not have to do such drastic things to be noticed, and it is somewhat immature and insecure behavior, my opinion. If you don't care what you look like.....serious issues one might think.

If you don't care what you look like.....serious issues one might think. I absolutely disagree, because if they didn't care what they looked like, why on earth would they spend time and money on tattoos and piercings? Just because they choice of style may be different to ours does not make it wrong, it makes it different.
When I was teenager I wore black make-up, had a punk hairstyle, wore chains, studs etc, but I wasn't following trends because none of my friends dressed like me, I was simply exploring who I was and what I wanted. I certainly was not in need of an identity, I had penty of that, and I was far from insecure. Indeed, ifI had dressed "normally" in jeans and T-shirt then I wouldn't have been questioned, even though I would have following so-called trends.

I'm reminded of the first bumper sticker my daughter put on her first car:
"The non-conformers are conforming with other non-conformers."

It doesn't look good to me but even tattoos aren't really fashionable with my generation. Really it's more a matter of doing it or overdoing it with me.
I don't want to risk getting my eye gouged out when I kiss my girlfriend.

To me it boils down to personal tastes.
As someone stated before, just because someone has tats or piercings it doesn't mean ones a bad person. I don't judge anyone by what they look like. As it states in my profile you miss out on meeting some pretty cool ppl if you are judgemental.
Tats and piercings aren't for everyone. Myself I have multiple piercings. My tongue was done about 10 years ago, before it was the "cool" thing to do. I do not lisp when I talk. Those who do lisp do it because they didn't go in and get the jewelry downsized as I did after the swelling is gone. I had my nose done about 3 years ago and have 9 in my ears. All tasteful, smaller jewelry, done for myself, not to get attention. Oh and one piercing, shall we say "south of the boarder"...lol
My pic. that is on here was taken about 3 months ago. My nose piercing is there, its on my left nostral. Looking directly at the pic. its on your left. Personally I think as long as someone hasn't gone on a MAJOR "overkill" on them its cool with me.

I just had a guy move in downstairs from me who has a shaved head, a NOSE ring, and tattoos all over him... I am absolutely terrified of this guy.
I quoted my best friend in another topic, and I will quote him again concerning these type of people.
WARNING!! This quote could very well offend some people. I also happen to agree with my best friend. The quote is below:
I think that bald-goatee look makes a statement.."I am a brainless motherfu(ker and I'm shaved like this to attract attention to my worthless sh1t of a self!" A lot of these douchebags shave their heads when they HAVE HAIR!! Supposedly that as$hole look is out these days, but try telling the douchebags who still look like that.

I just feel the urge to add here that many people think that men with long hair look very effeminate, that many people think that men in suits look like straight boring bastards, that many people think that men who wear pink shirts are gay, that many people think people who use swear words are common ignorant scum, all black men are criminals etc etc
I am truly amazed at how many people judge other people on their appearance, even if it's just a shaved head, or a tattoo, or even the colour of their skin or their religion... and I wonder how these very same people feel when they are judged by others who look different from them or have different beliefs to them. Yes we are all guilty of judging others by appearance to a small degree (myself included), but some of the comments I see bandied around are truly amazing, and really rather shameful.

I don't think any of us in here have said that folks that have piercings, tattoos, etc. are bad people, far from it.
I think a nice tattoo is fine or ear piercings and I think even having your belly button pierced is kinda cute, but I think what folks are saying is when it's taken to the extreme and it seems today it is taken to the extreme, but certainly even those that take it to the extreme are not bad people.
I work at a university where the boys are very proficient at walking around all day and doing things with just one hand! It's amazing,,the other hand is holding up their pants that seem to be a couple sizes to big for them. The crotch is down at there knees and to get something from their back pockets is an ordeal. I can not imagine going for a job interview to enter the business world, walking in holding your pants up and shaking the interviewers hand with the other.
We had our fads when I was coming up..the girls wore their cardigan sweaters backwards, we even had low rise, bell bottom pants. Not near as low as today, right above the pubic hairline, but low rise. We wore our pants too long and they got all frayed on the bottom, etc.
My company hires many young kids and this old coot moves a lot faster than they do, 'cause my shoes are not way too big and they're tied, plus I don't have to hold my britches up with one hand. I have a great repartee with them,,they laugh when I say, "I don't want to see your plaid underwear, pull your pants up!"
The appearance of some seems so sloppy!
We dowdy ol' folks must accept those that choose to be extreme, it's your right and you guys must accept us dowdy ol' fools, it's our right but when you don't get that job because the nose ring was just a little too big and the ring in your lip was unacceptable,,and perhaps the person interviewing you could not understand you because of that tongue stud, then you must accept that, also. The company has a right to set up a criteria that they will accept.
