I'm kinda boring. I tend to read the same books over and over again.
RIght now I'm reading "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" for the 4th time. But everytime I read it, I get more out of the book. I've been reading it very carefully, taking notes in margins and writing down pages with the passages that I really really like. For example, here's one of my favorite quotes from the book:
I just think [the] flight from and hatred of technology is self-defeating. The Buddha, the Godhead, resides quite as comfortably in the circuits of a digital computer or the gears of a cycle transmission as he does at the top of a mountain or in the petals of a flower. To think otherwise is to demean the Buddha --- which is to demean oneself.
I think the next book I read will be John Gardner's "Grendel". My mom said that there's an opera here in NY based on the book, so I've had a bug up my butt about the story. It's the story of Beowulf, but from the monster's viewpoint. A really well crafted existentialist work.
My current technical paper reading is a math paper on game theory entitle "Love and Distance in the Stable Marriage Problem". It's an operations research problem (and has very little to do with real love and real marriage).
Briefly. You have N men and N women. Each man and woman maintains a list of people from the opposite sex that they'd like to marry. The first person on the list is the person they most want to marry. The last person on the list is the person they least want to marry.
So for example, suppose N=3. The 2nd woman can have a list that looks like {m2, m3, m1} meaning she most wants to marry the 2nd male, and least wants to marry the first male. The marriage problem in game theory is:
How do you pair the arrangements to maximize the happiness of the entire group?
Clearly, not everyone can marry the person of their dreams, so how do you arrange things so that the"overall happiness" is maximized?
This paper looks at constraints. In my previous example, suppose m2 lived 50 miles away but m3 lived next door. Now how do you maximize happiness? Clearly, she would prefer m2 over m1.
It also talks about Nash stability --- a system of men and women are "Nash stable" if the marriages are stable against an individual's selfish design. In other words, if a person tries to marry someone different, they end up marrying someone less desireable. That's called Nash stability.
Anyhow, an interesting read!

OK, so I'll probably never be on a level even remotely comparable to that exquisite, intellectual mind of yours, but it sounds like a fascinating concept, not to mention I'm good at research

I am reading in this magazine right now, about the new English Bently/and Rolls Royce, it descibes the craftsmenship!!
The engine is 550 horsepower, and it has a 12 cylinder engine, very impressive, but i still steer more to the 65 to 67 (that particular series) Rolls Royce with the lifetime 415 V8.....Earl

Just finished "Manderin" and "The Samauri's Wife" (I don't 'collect' authors ) and am now reading Christine Feehan's "Night Game" (looks like it could be a fun series). I usually read about 4 or 5 books a week, so I can't keep track of titles and authors...and sometimes plot (half the Nazi/Russian spy novels could interchange their titles )
Oh yeh, mostly I read "junk"...but GOOD junk ~grin~ ...and never a "romance novel". You've read one, you've read them all.

I just finished "The Doctor's Wife" by Elizabeth Brundage. I'm about to reread "Naked" by David Sedaris, of whom I am a big fan! I actually saw him lecture this past fall!

I actually read this one, but thought the plot was so convoluted and hard to follow that the book gave me a splitting headache!

A lot like Piers Anthony's books

Lobo65...There is a fantastic book on the US War of 1812, called The Darkest Day( I've always called it The Brightest Day; a day by day accounting of the march to Wash. DC by the British Army through southern Maryland to downtown Wash. DC and how they sacked and burned it and the great time they had doing it. Check it out when, if you can find it.
Just finished The Stargate Conspiracy by Lynn Picknett and Clive Prince; ready to start on their newest "The Sion Revelation". They also wrote The Templar Revelation which influenced Dan Brown's fiction The Da Vinci Code. This one is of course non fiction. Also just finished Graham Hanc*** and Robert Bauval's new one "Talisman,Sacred Cities, Secret Faith" on the hereto for hidden influence of the Freemasons and their designs for a "global mission" for the US of a covert plan originally set in motion almost 2000 years ago....a bit tedious at times and heavy, 486 pages with about 50 in notes and references...
