POF, Book of Matches and this site are the only free ones I know of ... unless you count Craigslist.... Biggest problem with POF is it's become such a Meet Market smorg of people always searching and searching for something just a tad better, and never really finding the perfect one they seek, because he or she doesn't exist.... but the poster always think he or she does. Too many insincere people just surfing and surfing.
With a smaller more "intimate" (Excuse the pun) site people might tend to be a little more sincere. Sometimes you see the frustration in the POF profiles, but nobody seems willing to be a bit more flexible and widen their horizons either. Sure we have our absolutes like non-smoking (I'm allergic to smokes) but I think we've all overlooked many potential good potential partners for some pretty shallow reasons. That's the trouble with a giant free site like POF. But Marcus ( the sites owner) has his heart in the right place is... understand he met his partner on a site and wanted to give back to the community... that he's done and he's done very well financially as a result.

for me the worst sites are True.com amateurmatch.com ... all the pay ones with the biggest lies and BS ... fake users .. messages that defininatly look fake .. oh pay now to reply to this person .. i'm like no way.. i hate how on adultmatchdotoctor some girls look like they have a profile for what your looking for but its just to suck you into those dumb webcam sites i'm like hey i want love not porn
a site i like is okcupid.com ....... yesterday i hooked up with this cute girl really fast cause she was online and we chatted and exchanged emails like snapping fingers
i got a reply from another girl today .. another one fit for me
okcupid is free of course no bull

not only is true bad but it asks for your credit card number just to freaking sign up with fake bait users .. i searched them and two where actually fake and didnt exist..

3 years ago i went on casual kiss...it was all free back then but its only 7 $ a month now the last time i checked...anyways i met my ex there and was with him for 3 years so i cant complain. I wont go back on for personal sentimental reasons, but i thought i would pass it on..its a great interactive site and worth the money in my opinion.
Being female we will always get the "your a MILF, sexy, wanna "get togethers"... i have faith that there is someone amazing out there for me just have to weed through the gross and rude ones first...

kuhaaicaga i'm not sure if your still on this site or not as your name doesnt even have a link. But I too was a member of casualkiss and found far too many weird people on there. Like for example I would talk to one girl and i wouldnt hear from her and i would say hey how you been? Care to chat? She would freak out on me like i murdered someone using swear words and all that. Wouldnt be the first time something like that happened to me.
I did meet however 1 girl and thought she was different no way. She proved me that im glad that im single and im happy i might add.

You can call me the dating site queen and let me tell you, this site is the worst!! What makes it so bad? They don't care about their paying members and the people on there use the system to take control.
I was new and naive but learned a lot of things rather quickly to realize that the site was only concerned with making money and no matter how logical your debate was they could care less.
Here was the problem... On this site, if you got blocked 11 times.........you were thrown off the site! No questions asked!! If you paid for 6 months in advance like I did and got kicked off right away..........Oh well..too bad, you lose.
Here's the kicker. Members can block members for any reason at all with the push of a button. Once they block, they can't unblock.
I got blocked 7 times in one night because 1. I wouldn't talk sex, 2. I wouldn't give out my phone number to someone who asked in their first sentence 3. I wouldn't move over to instant messenger to view them jerking off on cam 4. I wouldn't meet someone the first time they asked 5. I wasn't interested 6. I didn't respond quickly enough to a whisper..(their IM) 7. I didn't answer at all and they thought I was rude when actually I was off line but the site shows members as online for hours afterwards.
Thennnnnnnnnnnn I'd log on and this big red rectangle would appear with flashing lights saying.. YOU HAVE ACTED INAPPROPRIATE AND HAVE BEEN BLOCKED.
OMG...I used to cry and write them letters explaining how unfair it was and that I wasn't the inappropriate one, the member who blocked me was!!! I insisted that we don't live in a country where we're guilty until proven innocent, it's the other way around. I tried every logical angle I could but they didn't care. 11 blocks..and you're off.
After a while I realized that many members were using the blocks to knock people off their list who weren't interested or punishing them knowing the blocks would hurt them.
BAD BAD BAD experience!!!
I could write a book on the sites now.....and have them all figured out with the kind of members that join each one and what things are allowed, along with how to get through when people think you can't! 
Those are my secrets though...so I guess everyone will have to wait for the book to find out.

UnzippedPassion Well that sounds very very bad and thanks for giving us a heads up on that site. I'm not sure if i ever came across it but now I know not to go there.
I think we should make up a list of all the great sites to go to.
Like I know for a fact I have no luck on any site I go to but I wont call it the worst.
But i do enjoy this one, plentyoffish, bookofmatches, twofortheshow, webdate and if you live in or around the Toronto area there is meetmeinto.
Those are the sites i spend alot of time on and they dont ask for money unless i missed something which i haven't caused I'm on those sites and they haven't asked me for money.

Worst dating sites (to me):
1. Match.com - I never was able to make any sense of it how it works...
2. Plentyoffish.com - their terms state that the admin can read your personal messages (emails to other members) if there is a reason for that. Tons of fake profiles. Most women never go on a date, some hunt for meals. Moderators love shutting members profiles down.
3. Udate.com - the administration are rude.
4. AmericanSingles.com (a.k.a. AS.ORG) - former glory...
5. eHarmony.com - their system does not make sense, sends matches from wrong regions, asks to send or answer questions after I've already done that (twice). Etc.
6. Many other "free" dating sites which are outright liars. They state they are 100% free but I have to pay to not only communicate, but to join.
7. FriendFinder.com - a rip off, a scam, fake profiles, very expensive.
8. SexSearch - attacking with massive amounts of fake emailsa and fake profiles.
9. Webdate.com - not free even if they claim to be free, many fake profiles.
Best dating sites (for me):
1. MatchDoctor.com - although they closed my profile in the past for no serious reason.
2. AOL Sucks Dating - best ever.
3. Single2.com - they are truly 100% free and as far as i can see no fake profiles. Honest service. I was treated well.
That's about it.
