So, I looked around and didn't see any big HP threads...one small one at one point, but thought it made sense to make a thread. So, lets talk about the books and movies! I personally love them all so much, but of course the books are better than the movies, if only because of the detail in them. My favorite characters in the books: - Hagrid - Dumbledore - The Weasleys
My favorite characters in the movies: - Everyone but the new Dumbledore! I really don't like Michel Gambon's version of him...I don't find him compassionate enough for the character from the book. And also, he lacks that dry sense of humor. Richard Harris nailed him, it was so sad to hear he passed away.
So what is everyone's favorite HP book? And movie? Fav characters, lines, scenes, chapters, etc Can't wait to read about everyone else's obsession with HP like me!! :)

I don't like Michael Gambons Dumbledor character. I think that Christopher Plummer what have been an excellent replacement Albus!
My favorite characters are: Fred and George Weasly and Professor McGonagall
I liked the fifth book the best and my least favorite book was the third.
I think all of them are great and can't wait for the last one.

You can slap me on the wrists if you wish, I haven't spent the time to read any of the books. But i'm a big fan of the movies. My favorite would definitely be the newest one, Goblet of Fire. I loved the fight with the dragon.
I do agree that Gambon wasn't the greatest choice for Dumbledore. I preferred Harris, but we all miss him dearly. I do however think Ian McKellen would have made a great Dumbledore, although I wonder if he was on the set of another movie when they went with Gambon. I'm sure availability and interest played a large role in the new casting.

I read that Ian McKellan said that one wizard in a lifetime was good for him.. something of that sort. So I do think he was considered. I just think Christopher Plummer resembled Dumbledore a little better and I think he would have had the personality to pull it off.

read all the books . seen all the movies . faves outside of harry's closest friends would have to be fred and george , almost always up to something , but not in any mean way . the replacement guy for dumbledoor does the job but seems a bit lacking in the role to me ( oh well ) . i hope the have the same people playing the main roles all the way ( all of the books made movies ) . when the newest movie comes out i will so be going to see it .

Does anyone know when movie number 5 (Order of the Pheonix) is due to come out? I heard something about November, but I wasn't sure if that was a rumor or not? Also, if you've only seen the movies and not read the books...you totally need to read the books! They are really easy to read, and really tell you a lot more than just seeing the movies, I think! Its definetely worth it!!
Ok, now here's a question: If you could be a witch or wizard like Harry or Hermione for ONE day, what would you do with your powers??

order of the phoenix was the best book....so much in there i dont see how they will get it all into a movie.
and for the half blood prince...the book was ok i dont like harry having a girlfriend or ron for that matter...there was just way too much mushy stuff in that book and not enough magic.
and what will become of hogwarts now??? is "he" really gone?? hehe trying not to ruin the book for anyone who hasnt read it.
but i love harry potter my kids know when the new books come out that i close myself off in my room and dont bug me...lol

For me it's funny to read when people say they like Book 5 the best...it was the one I liked the least! I found Harry to be incredibly whiny and so selfish (although I guess pretty realistic of a 15 year old boy) and the love-hate thing with Hermione and Ron got on my nerves....and of course I wanted to strangle Umbridge!!! Now, saying all of that I still found the book worthwhile, with the whole Order and filling in ALOT of blanks about Harry's parents and such. My favourite book is Goblet of Fire...despite the sad ending, I thought it was the best so far. I loved Book 6, but the ending makes me cry too much
In terms of the movies, I think its a tie for number 3 and 4 so far. And yes, it's going to be really hard to do the next two movies- there is so much!! Although I didn't think they could pull of Book 4 and they did it very very well.
I'm going to be so depressed when the series is done.....
