I'm a book lover, but I gave away at least 300 books before I moved. I miss them terribly.

awww, but just think of the positive contribution that your generosity is making to some person that otherwise wouldn't get to read the books that you contributed

Hey, thanks for sharing! I often read books I know not a lot of people read so it'll be great being able to connect with other people who have the same interests as I do.

SirDid...a tremendous find, the "Library Thing". I intend to sort through it today.
I particularly liked some of the threads ( or ought they be called "spines"?) The one about books made into films reminded me of my great admiration for Richard Matheson whose novel "Bid Time Return" was filmed as "Somewhere in Time" and "What Dreams May Come" was filmed under the same name. Unfortunately neither visual presentation could stand in the shadow of the book. He was so prolific a writer that I must soon do a search on ABE books to find missing copies of his pre-filmed stories.
IN fact, Unconventional...abebooks.com is a treasure for finding long-lusted after (or lost) books. I have never paid more than $1.00 for one and have found every entry I have sought.

I'm a book lover, but I gave away at least 300 books before I moved. I miss them terribly. You are a more generous person than I am. I would never give away any of the books that I love. In fact, if I have a flaw it is that I find a book sale irresistible. By the way, if I may ask, what kind of books did you donate to some very lucky person and/or organization?

By the way, if I may ask, what kind of books did you donate to some very lucky person and/or organization? I didn't necessarily love all of them, especially those Harlequin Romances. I gave away most of the books from my childhood. I even handed over my rather large collection of Dr. Suess books to my little brother who won't likely read them or appreciate them the way I did. Most of the books were fictional novels, but there was the occasional non-fictional book as well. It ranged in genre; some of the books went to my brother, the others went to the Salvation Army. I have a lot of hand-me-down books, including romance books, that I was willing to get rid of. Out of those though, about 200 were favourites of mine.

Harlequin Romances are simply porn for women and thus do not qualify as books any more than Penthouse or Hustler or even Maxim can be considered a legitimate magazine.
I know exactly what you mean about books that are unappreciated. My father and I were cleaning out one of his closets and stumbled across a box of books that I had loved when I was a boy. I would really prefer to give them to my nephews, but they never read anything that is not assigned by a teacher.
Hmmm...now you have got me wondering how much I can still recite of "Green Eggs and Ham!"

Rare:
You are very misinformed about romance books. There are many which are totally innocent and just about "old-fashioned" courtship, and those are the ones I read whenever I need a break from non-fiction (which is what I read the rest of the time). My favorites are those about 17th century England, Barbara Cartland is (or was) a very famous and prolific writer of those (though not by any means my favorite...).

You are very misinformed about romance books. He didn't mention romance novels in particular. Harlequins now-a-days, however, are extremely exaggerated

No, no, NO! Like I need another place to spend my time. Heck, I can't get all the books I already have organized, and I should do it online too? Which day should I wear my parka to hell?

Absolutely love a good book that will take me on a journey. My tastes vary...some of my favorites in the past year were: Pillars of the Earth-Ken Folllet; Five Quarters of an Orange-Joanne Harris; The Poisonwood Bible and Animal Dreams-Barbara Kingsolver; and From the Corner of His Eye by Dean Koontz.

YES!!!! YES!!!!
I love them read or unread, old or new, crisp or tattered. I love them all. That is, the ones I value. No harlequin, no romance period. I have lots of books I will probably never read, books I always hope to read, books I've read and reread, and books I wouldn't read again. I love books like my brothers love cars, or tools, and like women love shoes. It's one of the few things I value deeply about myself --- my love and appreciation for books.
Thanks for the website...I shall explore it further when I have the time, but I certainly could never list all of my books. I'd have to work all day everyday until the day I died to list all of mine. Wonder why people don't like to help me move??? Now you know...the rest of the story.... Thanks again.
By the way, the greatest gift my mother ever gave me was the love of books and of learning, and I tell her that quite frequently. Like today....her 77th birthday.
Thanks again, dear sir!
