Doorwatcher...read the 7 Habits. I've read most of PD James, but not the Murder Room.

I'm like you, I read more than one book at a time. As I'm now in a new writer's group, I have submissions to read as well. Sometimes, painful reads. Sigh.

Over the Hols I finished Traveling Mercies - Annie LaMott's memoir of her journey of faith.. and life. Beautifully written, though it did nothing to change or alter my position - that of sitting on the wire.

Currently reading a Stuart Woods "sort of" mystery - set in 1939 Hollywood (The Prince of Beverly Hills). It's not his "Barrington" series... and I'm not liking it quite as much.

Next I am finally getting around to Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. I was holding out - hoping someone would give me the CD of it for Christmas... I am addicted to the voices and characterizations of Jim Dale, the narrator. But alas I did not find it under my tree... so I borrowed it on tape from the library as I couldn't wait any longer. Can't wait to start it. So terrific to fall asleep to...

Just finished The Road, by Cormac McCarthy (one of the most depressing End Of The World books I've ever read), and have started Son of a Witch by Gregory Maguire (not as engaging as Wicked or Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister).

Finished Cry, The Beloved Country, gave up on The Poet (unsympathetic to the main character), and still reading Gravity's Rainbow

Added The God of Small Things, by Arundhati Roy, a christmas present from my daughter.

I've never liked Connelly as much as others in my family do, so I'm sympathetic to your plight with "The Poet."

My date tonight bought me T. Jefferson Parker's new novel....pure escapist fiction! Can't wait to get my current book finished so I can start it.

Reading (and writing) waaaayy too many blogs - It's cutting into my "reading" time.

All this talk of books is making me feel guilty and confused!!! What to read? So little time, so many choices!!

(and hey, Dance, Cosmo is a great distraction - offering a peek into another dimension... one can rationalize anything. lol.)

(She turns the Harry Potter tape back on and resumes work..)

Red, I read Travelling Mercies a few years ago, and I loved it. I could so relate to her viewpoints on so many things. Anne helped lead this heathen back to some semblance of spirituality...something I'm still working on. I have her next book -- Plan B --but haven't read it yet. It's sitting in the wings, along with about 1,000 others...I read slow.

Jen/Martin: I too never got into Connelly like so many of the critics did. I have a few books of his, all of them unfinished/unread. (I never finished Gravity's Rainbow either. I give a book 100 pages to grab me...if it doesn't I move on. Life's too short and I'm running out of time. ) And Jen...I have a couple of Parker's books in my bookshelves. Let me know what you think...

Right now I'm reading Lone Wolf the story about Eric Rudolph's capture. Since he lived and was caught in my neck of the woods, I find this book very informative and interesting about his misguided life.

I just finished "the Innocent Man" by John Grisham. What an incredibly sad and thought provoking book.

I read Publisher's Weekly, which reviews every book (well not self-published books) published in the US as well as gives info on who/what is on top in Europe, India, etc. If I only were independently wealthy, I would just read all day. So many great and interesting books, so little time.
