Okay, I was a theatre major in college, so the Oscars have been a big deal with me, for some time. For some reason though, this year, I just could not get into them, which is a little odd, considering that there were several very good movies, (Michael Clayton, No Country for Old Men, There Will Be Blood...). I was a little surprised that There Will Be Blood, did not win more awards. While No Country was good, I didn't think it was in the same league.

Anyone else have thoughts on the Oscars?

I felt the same thing this year, Yes. Just "Blah.....". I usually look forward to the spectacle of the show if nothing else, but even that didn't do it for me.

However, I did stay up and see the "Jimmy Kimmel After the Oscars Show" and saw one of the funniest bits I've seen in a long time...lol.

If this got past the network censors I'm sure it's deemed OK for here.

This is what started it a few weeks ago....

Sarah Silverman and Matt Damon

Jimmy responded with this on last night's show....

Jimmy Kimmel and Ben Affleck

Btw, Sarah and Jimmy are in a real relationship; the videos are just a joke, obviously.

The Oscars were dreadful this year. The only thing that may have saved it? Seeing Jack Nicholson spank Mylie Cyrus for trying to be cuter than him.

I was lucky enough to be a "Field Producer" for a satellite truck at the Oscars back in 1989. I took some photos, but they didn't turn out very well. Still have my ID Pass though!!!

It's an incredible place to be, I have to admit!! The air is in fact electric!

A friend of mine just won an emmy for set design on Mad TV. A hometown boy, made good. His mom has a shrine room of him.

1. Juno was robbed.
2. Sweeney Todd was robbed.

I am sick of the snobbery and the politics, and good movies, directors, and actors getting robbed every year because the academy is trying to be "artsy".

Every year, movies that no one has ever seen win these awards, and good movies are passed by.

I had to check my TV several times during the broadcast to be sure someone wasn't messing with the language dubbing settings.

The voters in the Academy are primarily liberal old white men, so it is little surprise that they choose to honor films that liberal old white men tend to like. This year, they liked No Country for Old Men and cared less for Juno. Todd (my favorite musical of all time) had no chance. In fact, I was surprised that Depp was nominated.

BTW, Juno ranked 18th in box office reciepts in 2007 at just over $130 million. Sweeny Todd was 49th at $52.5 million. No Country for Old Men was 40th at just over $64 million, Michael Clayton was 55th at $48.5 million and There Will be Blood, was 77th at $35 million.

What was number one? Spiderman 3, at $336.5 million, followed by Shrek the Third at $332.7 million & Transformers at $319 million. While I can agree that the Academy at times will pick out somewhat obscure flicks to honor, I really can't say that any of the top grossing movies, was exactly great film making.

To expand on the voting procedure.....

Who is Eligible to Vote for the Academy Awards?

Voters must be members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Initial voting is restricted to members of the Academy branch concerned. For instance, when the first wave of ballots is mailed to all members of the Academy, only directors may nominate other directors. Once the first round of voting is done and the field has been narrowed to no more than five nominees in each category, then all members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences are allowed to vote for a winner in most categories, including Best Picture.

In 2006 the Academy changed the rules for the Foreign Language Film category. A large screening group consisting of members representing all the branches of the Academy vote on the eligible foreign language films. After the final five are selected, then all members of the Academy may vote for the winner.

The Academy was formed in May 1927 and is a non-profit corporation.

The Academy has grown from 36 members to 6,500 highly qualified individuals representing 14 branches of interest - actors, animators and short film makers, art directors and costume designers, cinematographers, composers and songwriters, documentary filmmakers, directors, executives, film editors, producers, public relations specialists, sound technicians, visual effects experts, and writers.
