Can't wait till the Dark Knight movie (the second of the Batman Begins series) comes out July 18th starring the late and magnetic Heath Ledger. The preview looked really good which I'm not surprised at all. Anyone else looking forward to this film?

Yes and no. Yes because it looks like Heath played the Joker far better than Jack Nicholson. No because it is the last movie Heath COMPLETED.

No one plays the Joker better than Jack Nicholson, what are you on about? No one plays ANYTHING better than Jack Nicholson.

Heath Ledger is a B Movie Actor compared to Nicholson. And no, I don't care that the guy's dead...I'd say it if he was alive.

I'm an original Batman fan and Nicholson scared the crap outta me when I was a kid.

I'm not enthused about it btw cos Nicholson's not the Joker and cos any Batman movie that wasn't made by Burton has proven itself to be a sack of steaming fail.

I don't know, Jack is pretty hard to beat! I think the Movie awards folk should make a best "asshole" catagory. Jack would have won that in "a few good men" that man is the shit when it comes to acting!

The Dark Knight is going to rock . I thought Batman Begins was flawless (not to mention the best Batman movie to date) and I certainly expect more of the same awesomeness in the sequel (and yes, I said awesomeness, I know I'm a dork ).

Batman Returns wins over ANYTHING Batman not made by Tim Burton and not starring Michael Keaton, especially something starring Katie Holmes? That movie was so.... so video game geek. It was sickening.

And I'm entitled to argue against them in any manner I choose

I didn't personally attack, or deny anyone the right to their opinion.

Though I read a lot of comics as a wee lass, I never developed a great love of comic-based movies. I've seen the original Batman movie, as well as (most of) the Tim Burton offerings.

To borrow an oft-used adjective from this latest round of critic comments, I found Burton's Batman to be far too campy for my preference. The characters seemed more comical than angst-ridden, more funny than scary. While that presentation is generally consistent with the DC comics that I read as a child, I find that as an adult, I identify far more strongly with Frank Miller's interpretation of the characters...and therefore, Christopher Nolan's vision.

Batman Begins did not summarily convince me of Bale's appropriateness as The Batman, but I did find him to be at least incrementally better than any of Burton's Caped Crusaders. Perhaps The Dark Knight will further that impression.

As for The Joker? As much as I like a lot of Nicholson's work, I'll take Ledger's anarchist portrayal ANY day.

I'm finding a lot of posers are going to see this just cos Heath Ledger is in it. How sad. He wasn't even that good of an actor. If someone who liked Batman actually preferred his performance, well I don't get that, but more power to them. However...I'm a bit annoyed at people who have never seen a Batman movie nor cared to before Heath Ledger went and died and now they're all gung-ho about it.

I went and saw The Dark Knight movie and it not only lives up to the hype, it far surpasses it. This movie is brilliant, dark, mesmerizing, intense..... the superlatives could go on forever. The cast of actors were superb and none so more than the late Heath Ledger. I agree with LGQ that Jack Nicholson is a better actor, but Heath's portayal of the Joker was far better than Jack's. LGQ, go and see the movie and see if you don't agree. I even took the kids and while the movie was intense at times, we gave each other high fives the whole time. This is the Batman and Joker that made me save my allowance to buy the next month's Detective Comics.

I like the campy Joker. I like the campy Batman. I'll watch this movie for free, illegally, but it's not getting my money =)

I like the campy Joker. I like the campy Batman.

And really, that's what it all comes down to...personal preference. There is no more reason to like this newest iteration of Batman, than the Burton version. It's just a matter of opinion, and as with all things, the world would be a dull place if we all had the same tastes!

As an aside, I've never actually been a Ledger fan, having only seen a couple of his movies (and finding those movies AND his acting to be marginal). But from the first time I saw trailers for The Dark Knight, his Joker drew me in...and I was hooked. This was The Joker as I had always envisioned him.

And that's what it all comes down to...personal preference.

I have liked all the Batman movies. From the original in 1966 to 1989's Batman, Batman Returns, Batman Forever, Batman and Robin, Batman Begins and now the Dark Knight. My personal ranking is in this order from most favorite to least.

!. Batman Begins
2. The Dark Knight
3.Batman
4.Batman Forever
5.Batman Returns
6. Batman and Robin
7. Batman from 1966.
