I have a friend who is in a Rock Opera on Broadway. She's been trying to get the roll of Moureen in Rent but they keep telling her she looks too young. Her looks are perfect for the roll.

I love opera! I studied voice for 10 years and performed a lot... not in operas but I sing some of it! I also love any broadway type show and I too have the release of "Rent" marked on my calendar... November 23rd!!!! Figure that's the next best thing as I never made it to a live showing. As far as opera I do believe that "Carmen" is my favorite. I've seen "Phantom of the Opera" at the Fox Theatre in St. Louis twice. I just really love live shows with skilled singers!

Oh yes...moved to PHX from NYC two years ago, only thing I really miss is the Met. My favorite splurge was to attend on Christmas Eve, first taking family and friends to dinner at the Russian Tea Room...like me, now gone! Studied voice at the Met studios eons ago, still love to sing but confine it to the shower now; I attended the Magic Flute here at ASU, much better than expected, but obviously not up to Met standards. I've found a few opera lover friends here in PHX, but so far no luck trying to coordinate a visit to the Phoenix Opera.
Anyone wanting to attend an opera in Phoenix, holler!

oprah has always been a mess. way back n the day, she'd shake her guests' hands. u knew the ones she liked cos she didn't brush them off like she did the ones she didn't like too well/disagreed with them.
the biggest joke 2 me is her trying 2 tell other women about romance when stedman wouldn't even marry her. she did everything a woman could've done for a man -- short of being the wife.

Yep. Aida is gorgeous, but I prefer Puccini to Verdi. I love Tosca (duh) and I'm also a huge Rossini fan.

I love musicals too. We had a pretty good local theater group here until Katrina hit.
The national shows I've seen are Les Miserables (my favorite), Phantom of the Opera, Chicago, Starlight Express, and Cats.
I'm definitely going to see Rent when it opens.

Not a huge opera fan, but have gone to see Carmen(Last year) and saw La Boheme 3 years ago. In fact, my last girlfriend dumped me(In an e-mail... what a coward!) the night before we were to go see La Boheme.. and SHE was the one who wanted to go! I got the tickets just for her!
I only have one opera on CD, and that is Bernard Herrmann's opera Wuthering Heights. Some gorgeous stuff!

I love opera. I'm a voice major right now in college being classically trained so I get to sing arias all the time. I love singing in different languages.
My favorite opera is definately La Boheme. I too can't wait for Rent to come out! Tomorrow!! Well technically today since it's after 1 in the morning. Woo.

i love opera...and hopefully i'll be doing it for a living someday...i'm a voice major right now, and nearly everyday i'm working on an aria from some fantastic opera...now if i can ever conquer the queen of the night aria from the magic flute...that would certainly be an accomplishment...it's a lot of work, but theres nothing i would rather be doing:)

I enjoy a good opera. One of my favorites is "Don Giovanni" by Mozart. I like "La Traviata", too, and "Madama Butterfly". I've seen these on tv, on PBS. Would like to go to a live opera in person sometime. I enjoy the stories and music and the singing

I hear ya, LadyTosca!
I've only seen a couple live, Carmen and Madame Butterfly, but have seen a ton on TV. They are awesome spectacles and great entertainment. I would recommend EVERYONE see one. I'm going to make a point of seeing more. Seeing classic ballet is fun, too.
