What to do with old textbooks...

I am referring to obsolete textbooks from the 1950's and 1960's--textbooks that had belonged to my father and older siblings but which are just about worthless today. Does anyone actually collect such textbooks? I thought about donating them to charity so that students in other countries can learn English, but most organizations involved in such causes prefer more recent textbooks. I suppose I could always recycle the books, but I just wondered if there are any alternatives.

I was living in FL a year and a half ago and clearing out some stuff that belonged to my late sister, who was a high school teacher and had lot's and lot's of old, outdated textbooks on American and World history. I couldn't find anyone that wanted them, not even the recycling centers. They said they can recycle magazines but not any books with bindings. No library was interested in taking them either. So into the garbage cans they went to be picked up and incinerated. Kinda sad......

There are people who collect those things. I'd contact alibris.com and see if you can put them up for sale. They specialize in out of print books.
