why oh why do they insist on remaking classic movies?
I found out today that they are redoing Nightmare on Elm Street, I saw the trailer and it looks really crap.
why do they insist on ruining the classics?
I could go on forever listing crappy remakes, but thats too much effort

I was actually surprised that I liked the remake of King Kong with Naomi Watts but I agree with you. The majority of "remake" movies are just garbage. The Karate Kid being remade already? It's a good movie but hardly worth remaking. The first one was good enough!

Yes the Karate Kid is being remade. Will Smith's son will play the part of Daniel. Not sure who is going to play Mr Miyagi.

Sorry for the double post but I found info on the "Kung Fu Kid" which is the name of the remake movie.

why bother? I should have thought that the answer is blindingly obvious: Money.
Money is God in Hollywood. The Almighty Dollar is worshiped with a fervor that exceeds even that of Wall Street. The only sin in Hollywood is to be poor.

"Dumb and Dumber", "Dude, Where's My Car?", "Showgirls", "Anaconda", "Wild Wild West", "The Avengers", "Basic Instinct 2", "Lord of the Rings", "Little Nicky"....et cetera al.
As a wise man once observed, no one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public.

Excuse me but the LOTR is one of the better remakes...considering most of the other ones were CARTOONS.

Don't even get me started on that subject, whatagal. I've written literally hundreds of thousands of words damning Peter Jackson and his mutilation of a masterpiece. There are no tortures sufficiently hideous to punish that man for his sin!

My upcoming disappointment is the remake of Harvey. Okay, Speilberg has made some good movies (I wonder, as they're handing a, I dunno, special affects award, they mention in an aside to him that ET's being remade...). On one hand, he's not going to get any shade of Jimmy Stewart, on the other, he probably won't just take Owen Wilson. The other thing that bothers me is that any reference to Harvey (like saying I'm working with him when I'm obviously been given no help at the plant) will no longer be obscure except to those who know the Jimmy Stewart movie or Farscape's neural clone of Scorpius, visible only to John Crichton.
