Not refering to the Star Wars or James Bond villans, or any with ten arms, turns into a vampire when he sees a naked breast or has a Mick Jaggar tongue that can wrap around you ten times until the guts come pouring out.
I mean the ones that everyone has a realistic chance of actually running into at some point in their life.
My vote goes to Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction. You do not even have to be married to be scared of becomming involved with someone like this. Cunning, manipulative, using everything that she had to get her man. She played Douglas like a fine fiddle. Every time he wanted out, she kept reeling him back in. Big haired blondes actually had a hard time finding dates after this one.

John Travolta as Gabriel in "Swordfish"--totally insane, as likely to kill you while smiling at you, and really enjoying your company. Total psychopath--yep, believable
Several Willem Dafoe psycho villains are also totally believable, wouldn't want to run into any of them

For a realistic villain I have to say the guy from One Hour Photo....my god....
And otherwise, of course, my vote is Emperor Palpatine, because....I love him, and I love the actor who plays him.

Does Hannibal Lector count? There's a slim chance of running into someone like that, but our society has crapped out as well so...

John travolta as the mobster type villain in this movie with " thomas jane as the "punisher" that gets his revenge.. it rocks.. i loved it.. Sweet N Louisiana :)
In this adaptation of the Marvel comic book, FBI agent Frank Castle (Jane), grieving from the mob-organized murders of his wife and mother, transforms himself into the Punisher, a costumed superhero with a take-no-prisoners approach to eradicating crime in America. Travolta plays the crime lord Howard Saint.

Robin Williams... I can't believe he could play that part so well! Creeped me right out.
I would also have to add Gary Sinese from "Ransom". The whole two faced thing (and being able to pull it off so well) bothered me.
