Lecri, too old?....you kiddin'...NO WAY...lol
yes, i was kidding. i remember when i first got married and hubby asked why i listened to rocknroll (he liked marilyn manson and disturbed ). since then, he appreciates the real rocknroll (i clarify cos some folks are confused).
i wish i could get a copy of the movie shake, rattle and rock. it had fats domino, big joe turner, "touch" connors (aka mike of mannix fame), etc. as usual i was so busy enjoying the movie that i didn't bother to put a tape in vcr. i need to get better about that.
btw, i like reading the music guides when listening to a particular song. i make sure i have the period album cover if possible.

Then you'll love allmusic dot com, Lecri.
That's where I'm getting my little bio's/reviews.
You first create a user name/pw, and then can look up practically anybody (their database is huge). And not only will you be able to read up on obscure artists, but can listen to 30 second song snippets from the albums (well, most albums anyway).
And best yet, it's free!...can't beat it.
Enjoy

The Rain Parade "Crashing Dream"
Cassette transferred to mp3, playing on my computer as I type.
Biography by Denise Sullivan, All Music Guide
Among the L.A. groups dubbed Paisley Underground (Dream Syndicate, the Bangles, Three O'Clock), Rain Parade were the closest to being the real deal for their use of psychedelic flourishes thoroughout their first album.
Formed in Los Angeles in the early '80s, the group consisted of David Roback (vocals, guitar), Steven Roback (vocals, bass), Matt Piucci (vocals, guitar), Will Glenn (keyboards), and Eddie Kalwa (drums). Their first single, "What She's Done to Your Mind," was a certifiable hit on college radio, and the band quickly followed with a full-length LP for Enigma in 1983, Emergency Third Rail Power Trip.
For 1984's Explosions in the Glass Palace, (Restless) the band lost David Roback to Opal, but John Thoman took over and Mark Marcum filled in for the departed Eddie Kalwa. The re-formed band recorded the live album Beyond the Sunset (1985, Restless) and Crashing Dream (Island, 1986) before disbanding.
David Roback went on to finesse Opal into Mazzy Star, Steven Roback, and Thoman worked as Viva Saturn, and Piucci recorded an album with Crazy Horse — yes, that Crazy Horse.
Side Note -- I really LOVE this album. 80's retro-psych didn't get much better than this.

Lecri, I spelled it out because I thought MD doesn't like URL's in posts. But it should have been easy to figure out for a smart gal like you?

Oh yeah, wolf. People have heard about Robert Johnson but probably have no idea how great J.B. Lenoir was.
I just saw Clapton's live DVD of Robert Johnson music again last weekend on public television -- Great. I need to either get the DVD or record the special when it's on next time.
Description from Amazon:
Live, intimate, and raw, Sessions For Robert J is the essential audio/video companion to Eric Clapton's 2004 gold, Top 10 Me And Mr. Johnson, tribute to blues legend Robert Johnson. Filmed during tour rehearsals in London and Dallas plus a Los Angeles hotel room and the Dallas warehouse where Johnson made some of his final recordings, Sessions for Robert J finds Clapton performing all Robert Johnson songs with his touring band, acoustically with Doyle Bramhall II and solo-as well as discussing Johnson and his influence. A performance/documentary DVD with 14 tracks (from which the 11 CD selections are taken), Sessions for Robert J is blues heaven.
