"Suite Judy Blue Eyes" ~ Crosby, Stills, & Nash

It's getting to the point
Where I'm no fun anymore
I am sorry
Sometimes it hurts so badly
I must cry out loud
I am lonely
I am yours, you are mine
You are what you are
You make it hard

Remember what we've said and done and felt
about each other
Oh babe, have mercy
Don't let the past remind us of what we are not now
I am not dreaming.
I am yours, you are mine
You are what you are
You make it hard

Tearing yourself away from me now
You are free and I am crying
This does not mean I don't love you
I do, that's forever, yes and for always
I am yours, you are mine
You are what you are
You make it hard

Something inside is telling me that
I've got your secret. Are you still listening?
Fear is the lock, and laughter the key to your heart
And I love you.

I am yours, you are mine, you are what you are
You make it hard
And you make it hard
And you make it hard
And you make it hard

Friday evening, Sunday in the afternoon
What have you got to lose?
Tuesday mornin', please be gone I'm tired of you.
What have you got to lose?
Can I tell it like it is?
Listen to me baby
It's my heart that's a sufferin', it's a dyin'
That's what I have to lose
I've got an answer
I'm going to fly away
What have I got to lose?
Will you come see me
Thursdays and Saturdays?
hey, hey, hey
What have you got to lose?

Chestnut brown canary
Ruby throated sparrow
Sing the song don't be long
Thrill me to the marrow
Voices of the angels ring around the moonlight
Asking me, said she so free
How can you catch the sparrow?
Lacy, lilting, lady, losing love, lamenting

Change my life, make it right
Be my lady.
Doo doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo doo doo

Que linda me la traiga Cuba,
la reina de la Mar Caribe.
Cielo sol no tiene sangreahi,
y que triste que no puedo vaya,
Oh va, oh va

Doo doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo doo doo

It must have been in the Sunny 70's today. Shorts and T-shirt weather here in Seattle.

Love that song, Striving!

Right now listening to The Veronicas "The Secret Life of the Veronicas" album on the 'puter. (Released February 14, 2006)

Review by Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide

The Veronicas sound like a marketer's dream: impossibly cute Australian twin sisters who sound as if Hilary Duff and Avril Lavigne formed a band. If image is everything, this duo has a look that rivals that of t.A.T.u., and it's far less sleazy, too. But good images don't necessarily make for good records, and that's the real surprise behind their debut album, The Secret Life of the Veronicas: it's a terrific little pop record. True, their bold, brightly colored pop may not be everybody's cup of tea, but for those who have found the teen pop of the mid-2000s to be a serious drag, The Secret Life of the Veronicas is an unexpected gift, a slick, tuneful set of pure sugarcoated fun. While the Veronicas don't exactly break from the post-Avril punky pop that's been the blueprint of teen pop from Ashlee Simpson to Good Charlotte, there's a greater sense of song and studio craft on their record, whether it's coming from veteran teen popster Max Martin (the man behind Britney Spears and the Backstreet Boys) or the sisters themselves. And make no mistake, for as polished as this album is, the Veronicas come across as a genuine band, not a prefabricated pop novelty. Not only do Jess and Lisa Orgliasso have a hand in writing eight of the 12 songs on The Secret Life, but there's a kinetic chemistry to their performances that gives this album both a center of gravity and a broader appeal: like Kelly Clarkson, they don't seem like cookie-cutter pop tarts, they seem real. Of course, they're packaged and presented as a creation, but that's why The Secret Life of the Veronicas is such a good record: it plays by the rules of punky teen pop, and by doing so, it reveals how dull and formulaic the rest of the genre is. Here, melody runs through both the verses and choruses, the hooks dig deeper, not just on the tracks helmed by Martin, but on the Orgliasso sisters' songs, too. The Veronicas are sassy and sexy, not trashy, and they show humor and heartbreak here, which helps elevate their debut to the top ranks of 2000s teen pop.

Your welcome Mo,

I don't have music from the Veronicas but I have heard of the group.

t.A.T.u. I own one album from them: 200 km/h in the Wrong Lane [ENHANCED]

(All The Things She Said) is a nice track but I think the Smiths did a way better job on (How Soon Is Now)

Soho did a rippoff of that song by the Smiths' called (Hippie Chick-Happiness is a warm hippie).

My favorite song from Avril Lavigne is (I'm With You) & (My Happy Ending)

Anyway on topic

Cool song, Striving. I've got their "Pump Up The Jam" album on vinyl (remember those??...lol).

Now Playing: Mat Kearney's "Nothing Left To Lose" CD

They had it playing when I was browsing through my local Borders book store last Saturday. At first I thought it was Coldplay's new album, but realized "X &Y" hadn't been out that long, and Coldplay has never been known for being prolific...lol. Once I found out who it was I bought it anyway -- love it.

Review by Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide

On his 2006 major-label debut, Nothing Left to Lose, singer/songwriter Mat Kearney comes across as a mix of John Mayer, Jason Mraz, and U2. Kearney has the loose-limbed, acoustic feel of Mayer's earliest work, but he has a hazy hip-hop underpinning to a lot of his songs that recalls Mraz — plus, like Mr. A-Z himself, he will easily slip between crooned choruses and rapped verses. Then, he shares the sincerity, not to mention the vague Christian undercurrents, of early U2, and he certainly builds on their echoey guitars and arty soundscapes throughout Nothing Left to Lose, which means that he can also occasionally sound like Coldplay here, particularly on the relaxed epic "Crashing Down" and the piano-driven anthemic power ballad "In the Middle."

It's a modern sound, pitched halfway between adult alternative pop and collegiate jam bands, and since Kearney is an ingratiatingly sincere guy, it's often appealing on a pure sonic level, even if the stylistic mash-ups occasionally sound awkward. In specific, the raps often sound shoehorned into the arrangements, sticking out like sore thumbs even when the hip-hop beats themselves go down easy — but to his credit, Kearney never sounds as smarmy or self-satisfied as Mraz. There is never a moment on this album where he doesn't sound earnest and serious, a trait that would be an Achilles' heel for most singer/songwriters, but there's an inherent modesty to Kearney that keeps him from sounding lugubrious and self-absorbed. Usually, he simply sounds likeable, thanks to his guy-next-door voice and clean, evocative production. So, he has the sound down on Nothing Left to Lose, but the songs are a little uneven, partially due to the preponderance of awkward rap-rock cuts that sound clunky next to his ballads and folky pop, partially due to the fact that his on-record persona is so modest that his songs sound modest too.

That said, his modesty is appealing, and so is Nothing Left to Lose, which expands on the strengths his 2004 Inpop debut — quite literally, since six of the 13 songs here are remixed versions of tracks from that effort — to position Mat Kearney as a promising AAA singer/songwriter, particularly for those who find recent John Mayer too muscular and recent Coldplay too cold and arty.

Yeah Mo, I have about 17,000 MP3's or so. I'll see my sister this summer and get more cd's from her. She has about four thousand CD's.
Couple of my Computer Tech friends have 60,000 full CD's combined.

lol...glad to know I have a kindred spirit on here, Striving.

I've got something like 15,000 Lps and CD's, and Gawd knows how many mp3's on the 'puter. Oh, also have assorted cassettes and vinyl 45 singles (but those only number in the "hundreds"...lol).

I first started collecting music right before the CD revolution hit, and even then, for a few years they didn't have that many titles on CD, certainly not the older stuff, and the price was way too high (it's still highway robbery).

Luv all the Monkees hits, and especially the "Head" album/movie!!!....Victor Mature Rocking????

Stay Loose,
Jeff

KISS--Unplugged

Is it just me, or does KISS sound like Moby Grape? Or maybe Spirit? I can't quite remember what Spirit sounds like. Does anyone even know of these groups from way back when? Country Joe and the Fish even came to mind today.

I wish I had my old stereo. I can't use my turntable, and I have some wonderful old albums.

Hmmm, not sure what KISS sounds like, never been a big fan of 'em so other than hearing a few radio hits way back when not really sure what they even sound like?...lol. Do like "Black Diamond", though

Moby Grape made only one great album, their first (but "what" a album! -- love it). I'm a HUGE fan of Spirit; have most of their albums.

The Act "Too Late at 20"

Biography by Michael Sutton, All Music Guide

Act existed only briefly, recorded an LP that bombed, and then broke up. End of story? Not quite. Act just happened to feature a musician who wrote one of the '80s most memorable songs. After releasing a self-titled album with Alfalpha on EMI Records in 1977, Nick Laird-Clowes (vocals, guitar) formed Act in 1979. Also featuring Mark Gilmour (guitar) (the brother of Pink Floyd's David Gilmour), Sam Harley (bass), and Derek Adams (drums), Act's lifespan didn't extend beyond 1981's Too Late at 20, a full-length of Elvis Costello-styled new wave pop. The album went nowhere, and the group split up.

In 1982, Laird-Clowes flew to New York to receive music lessons from Paul Simon, whom he had met at the Grammy Awards. A year later, Laird-Clowes created the Dream Academy with keyboardist Gilbert Gabriel and multi-instrumentalist Kate St. John. In 1985, the Dream Academy had a U.S. and U.K. hit with "Life in a Northern Town" and then disbanded in the early '90s when they were unable to mirror that success.

I had misjudged KISS, for years, because of the way they looked onstage. I assumed they were a heavy metal band. Boy--was I wrong!! When I bought the Unplugged CD, I was pleasantly surprised, and I discovered I knew many of the songs, but I didn't realize they were KISS songs. If you like Spirit and Moby Grape, you might want to check out the Unplugged CD. I'm not familiar with any of their others.

Now is where I start sounding really Blonde. I have some songs I would like to record, but I'm not certain how. I have a CD Burner. Can I download to my computer and then transfer onto a CD with my CD burner? If so, can you guys give me some hints on how to do so? Please?

Candee, you can use Microsoft Windows Media Player to burn CD's. It's easy and the program should already be on your computer.

Just open it and click on the Help Menu in the toolbar toward the top of the player. If your version of Media Player is like mine, it should default to "Contents". Then you take this path, click on the + sign next to "Using the Player" to open the submenu, then ==> + sign for "Using CDs, DVDs, and VCDs" ==> + sign for "Burning your own CDs", and then click on "To burn your own CD".

You must already have the source audio files on your computer in order to burn to a "blank" recordable CD, of course, unless you have a dual CD drive that allows sychronized burning.

You can burn different formats -- mp3 files, windows media audio files, or regular WAV files (these type of files are the format your pre-recorded, store bought, CDs are in). I like burning an mp3 CD because you can fit up to 150 songs or more (depending on the 'bit rate').

Here's a link that explains just what mp3 is....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MP3

You'll have to do a little bit of trial and error first to get the hang ot it, but once you do it's very easy. I recommend getting some rewritable, blank CDs (CD-RW) to practice on because you can just erase them and start again.

Oh, had to come back and add -- word of caution about Windows Media Player. The default music file it copies is in the *.wma, or windows media audio format, which some older players don't recognize. There is a codec you can download free from Microsoft that can allow mp3 recording.

Have Fun!
