I'd have to agree with illinibab81, all the music is good, it's just different from time period to time period. Now there might be a few poor genres of music but that would be the case in any time frame...

I would vote for the late 50s and early 60s music. I think times were different back then, tv was different and people had more respect for each other. Today our Country is a mess and everyone is divided. You listen to the love songs of the late 50s and early 60s they brought tears to your eyes and that warm feeling inside. Nowday music is loud, clashing sounds and screaming singers. To me its one feeling, turn it off. TV shows are stupid anymore, commercials on every 3 minutes it seems, in fact it seems we watch commercials more than the shows. Our cost of living has tripled, taxes on more things, insurance on more things and much higher than in the past. Its not the same Country I grow up to know.

Without a doubt, the best generation of music was the '70's.

60s...and there's no argument.
the great bands of the 60s, especially The Beatles and The Rolling Stones...shaped the bands of the later decades. And they were better than them, too.

I'd like to take a step back and say that the 40's opened alot of doors musically.
But as for my favorite it would have to be the 60's and 70's!
Beatles, Kinks, Yes!, Genesis (early years), Pink Floyd... those years in musical pioneering also opened alot of doors and introduced new techiniques and allowed the musicians creative license instead of trying to produce "hit making machines"
