A man has been charged with the murders of 5 women tonight. In what is truelly a dreadfull incident, his friends were on a news channel a few days ago, giving a glowing report on how he was a model citizen, who played golf every week, spent weekends with his wife down the pub,and was a good person to have around the community. So what makes a person turn from being a model citizen to a monster in the space of several months? The news report from his friends views were that he was 100% innocent, the wrong man they all said, not possible.....This begs the Question, do we really know a person 100%, total trust, or do we all live with some nagging doubts in our mind?

I put up a post on the main forum about these murders....
It is my understanding that 3 additional murders/missing persons cases have been reopened.
In any event, I believe US, UK and other authoriities under estimate the number of serial killers in our midst, because they ignore the deaths of the most vulnerable victims -- prostitutes, the homeless, run-aways, etc.

So what makes a person turn from being a model citizen to a monster in the space of several months? This is a myth. This didn't happen in a short timeframe. The killer enjoyed a long road of escalating violence. There are all types of serial killers, so the actual route varies depending on the type of killer he is. Is he a "mission" killer who felt he was doing his community a favor by killing prostitutes? Is he a power/control killer who picks the marginalized of society as his victims, because he knows it will take law enforcement longer to get around to solving the murder of a dead prostitute? In all likelihood, a long series of unsolved rapes preceded these killings, and once again, because these rapes were probably of prostitutes they were either not reported or dismissed out of hand (i.e. she's just complaining, because she didn't get paid).
The reason serial killers can murder as many people as they do is because they don't present their true face to the world. Many are called charming, intelligent, and good neighbors by those who think they known them. Not to scare you, but I think there are more serial killers in our midst than we'd like to think. As a society, we only seem to pay attention either when the body count reaches unacceptable levels or when the killer crosses over from high-risk victims to the nice girl next door.
