Hi.
Was just reading some forum posts about scams.
Seems to me, that part of the 'price' for a free membership should be active participation in blogs or forums.
That way, only those who've updated, commented on, or started a blog or forum post will maintain their membership.
Better still, maybe even a rating system for members, based on activity levels in non-search pages...
Also, and this is where I think the search options can be improved upon:
A mandatory comment on the (first, latest or randomly selected) posts of anyone whom you wish to send an email to. I think this'll have 2 benefits:
1. That way, scammers'll be hard pressed to get a 'bot to read, understand and comment on a post along with their emails.
2. Everyone you send an email to knows you've had more than just a cursory glance at their picture or profile.
3. It's a maybe- who knows where genuine questions might lead...?

Comments, anyone?
Especially on any flaws in the suggestion and how we get Admin to take action!

Wow.
All this time, 11 views, zero comments.
What's wrong with the plan, I wonder?
There I was with hopes of petitions, improving services, cutting down security risks and everyone enjoying a feel-good experience.
Naive, eh?

Some genuine members don't participate, so it wouldn't work.

Thanks for the response.
Phew. Was beginning to get that 'desert island' feeling.
It's fine if your account is 'dormant' for any length of time.
But surely, if you want to send an email to someone, a request to make a statement on a random item- or even a selected word like 'surf'- on their profile would ensure only genuine people in the main would get in touch?
So that whomever you got the email from would stand a greater chance of being a genuine member. Plus, start up a conversation via correspondence.
Surely?

I don't understand.

You would be better off posting your question >>> here <<< that way, you won't get such a desert island feeling.
