Is there anything in particular from your childhood that puts you at ease? Something that helps you relax when everything goes astray?? maybe the taste of a certain food, or an item you still have or the way someone does something?

Sleeping with a fan on every night. Even in winter, blowing away.
We didn't have air when we were little, so Dad bought a fan and blew it across the hall from his bedroom toward ours. We would sleep n our doorway to get relief.
The sound is comforting.

Music - Viennese waltzes, polkas, schmaltzy songs like Innamorata and Unchained Melody, Gay 90's songs from singalongs, like Sweet Adeline and such. Everybody gathered around a piano singing a lot of politically incorrect songs that I won't detail here...even old Slovenian songs that I learned phonetically. Always singing and dancing...

Di i still have my blanky!! the blanket is 30 years old, it was my mothers and when I was a little girl it was my most favorite, eventually she let me have it. it is nothing more now than two queen size sheets sewn together with the little ties all over like a quilt. I still sleep with it every night and amazingly it is in good shape yet, not holes or anything! Of course through the years it has gotten so thin works perfect for the summer!

I have a stuffed monkey with a little black vest that I call Monkey-James. I got him when I was about 7. He still sleeps with me every night.

my grandma used to pat my butt to soothe me as a very little girl. Today if a boyfriend rubs my butt it completely relaxes me to the point of being able to fall asleep right there. Nothing sexual about it, just relaxating. I know WEIRD!

The smell of freshly baked sugar cookies at Christmas time reminds me of my moms baking
I am the same as you Loreli.. I run a fan all year around.. the sound of the fan drowns out background noise and lulls me to sleep

yup i sleep with the fan on year round as well. I forgot about the smells of my mom and grandma making candy and treats around christmas time. Just sitting around the table at family get togethers is the greatest thing for me during the holidays.

The smell of newly cut grass reminds me of Sat. mornings when I was a teenager and the world was not a scarey place at all.
The smell of gasoline and peanuts--my grandpa used to take me to the gas station with him. While he filled the tank, I got a penny to put in the peanut machine to get a handful of peanuts. Been a long time since I've smelled those 2 odors together. Takes me waaaaaaaay back to when I was a little kid and I was the center of attention.
I guess smells are what do it for me huh?

My grandparents had a 2 story house. Above the kitchen was one bedroom-my Mom's. I'd always sleep in that room while visiting, and I could smell the toast with homemade strawberry jam, wafting up through a grate in the floor in the mornings.
Yum!

Pizza from one particular place, we got as a treat on Fri (payday). Unlike most of you, I grew up poor, so pizza was a big thing that I'll always remember.

I go and visit the Deschutes river where the white river feeds into it. It is the only place that I have good memories of my father. We used to go every weekend there to go fishing.
