the choices:
woman; lady; girl; or gal

A question for the females:
Which do you prefer to refer to yourself as?
Which do you prefer others in general to refer to you as?
Which do you believe men prefer?

I guess I usually refer to myself as a girl.
I don't mind if others call me a girl or woman.
All the men or guys I chat with seem to prefer using girl.

I rarely refer to myself as any of them. Prefer woman or girl I suppose. I am not lady like and feel being labeled lady like is inhibiting and limited. Connotations of helplessness pop in and I see some airhead (scuse me if this is any of you) crying...omg I broke my fingernail or omg I chipped my nailpolish.
Personally I do not care what others prefer. Sorry.

Thanks guys. This curiousity started when I myself suddenly felt I was "too mature" at my age to be calling myself a "girl" as oppose to a "women". But then I thought, why not? It was written in conjunction with a blog I wrote that goes into lil more depth:

Girl or Women?? (if this does not work it is my most recent post)

Me?
I prefer to refer to myself as a girl;
others- any of them as long as there's no negativity;
men probably prefer "woman"

That was very interesting what you wrote SE....:)

Sorry to jump into your thread but why didn't you add the words:

Chick

and

Babe?

I always use those words, that is, unless I'm making reference to a very unattractive female, then I'll think of some other word.

Me personally words like chick, babe- unless I like the guy A LOT has too much of a sexual connotation the first time.

I'm just one of the guys most of the time...I have no particular preference but I think a woman can be a girl for as long as she wants (I'm just not a girly girl type).

Mostly I think I'm more of a geek than a girl.

Yeah, I tend to see myself as more of an asexual type. Not gender specific. I am more like one of the boyz in a group of men and girl in a group of fun focused people. I tend to be Leader/CoLeader or Teacher in a healing/ spiritual/ metaphysical group group. Brat is my favorite title.
