Well a lot of us know each other pretty well by now, perhaps even intimately...
But what does it look like, where you live? People have expressed curiosity about my name and region, but it's never occurred to me before to actually SHOW anyone...
There are lots of websites about our local towns and states... so what does it look like there? I/WE REALLY WOULD LOVE TO KNOW!!!
Well just for a starter, this is my home turf... Queensbury in West Yorkshire. Of course you don't have to reveal any address or personal information (there are spammers lurking lol !!) but just some pictures and information about your home town would be fascinating... and I'm pretty sure would bond a lot of us closer together.
So for starters, here's my town's website, with further links...
>QUEENSBURY WEST YORKSHIRE<
I was born in Clayton, just a mile down the hill. Close to one of the highest railways in England, which is no longer there. But I did go to the highest school lol.
Cheers the lot of you, Pete :o)

Great idea CPU, well I of course live in Arkansas and here is a link to the site which has lot sof info including a great video as you enter showing off some of the city and its beauty.
Conway, Arkansas
I was born about 70 miles away in a much smaller town and then moved North at t avery early age but relocated back to Ar in the 70's and for the most part have been here ever since. Did leave for a few years but returned several years ago after I retired.
This link is to the city of my birth;

I'm here in the Valley of the Sun - Phoenix AZ. It's an odd place - practically nobody was born here, we've all migrated here...and it's certainly misleading in many ways. What you see as you drive around is lots of concrete and strip malls, but if you penetrate a bit beyond the surface you'll find all kinds of hidden gems - and if you like hiking, it's definitely different - we have a number of mountains, all of which are linked (not Rocky Mountains style, these are definitely day-trip climbable, with varying degrees of difficulty).
The best part is the variety available within a pretty short distance - a few hours north you have the Grand Canyon, a few hours west you have San Diego, a few hours east you have Tonto National Park (about a million acres of desert for horseback riding, quadding, hiking, flying), south you have Mexico, including beaches on the Gulf with the Superstition Mountains on your way down there...want to find the Lost Dutchman Mine? Or stop off at Tortilla Flat, a way station from the original Pony Express route on the Apache Trail? Snow, you said? Four letter word to me, but if you want to ski, it's only about an hour north, while in Phoenix you may see a few flakes in January but that's about it...they don't last long. I planted tomatoes the first year I was here and was harvesting from the same bushes for three years. We're at about 45 degrees right now, with a high of about 75 expected later today.
Here are some general pictures:
Phoenix
And this is a wintertime picture of my backyard:

CPU..this is a nice thread you started
I put in this link since it represents best where I reside during the week. It's the largest City in the County. Yonkers, NY However, I was not born and raised in the above city....somewhere else
I was married in one of the most beautiful places in the world... Maui Don't live there but had to throw it in since it's a special place to me.
On most weekends drive in and stay in the City

e18] Great responses, everyone and I'm still looking through the info you all so kindly provided... it's Really interesting!
I'm on a wireless connection right now but I see there are a few Smiths in your region Gray... Any relation to the namesake of Fort Smith? Didn't realize there were so many educational institutions there either...
Heaven your garden looks great - a bit like Elton John's lol but you certainly have the weather, even in winter! As you can see from Queensbury we sometimes have skating rinks in the yard in May lol... We did have a ski slope prior to global warming
Barbados too, wow... getting exotic...
And Cyn, I knew a bit about Yonkers before but it's certainly great to put some pics and info to those impressions...
Do keep posting, more later when I'm back on a fixed link... I'm sitting in a café with a translation lol...

Can see why you wanted to get married in Maui, Cyn.
Been watching Times Square from the surveillance cam but no robbery yet lol... Amazing to see people get around in real time, guess it must be about lunchtime there?
Ummm why are all the cars yellow?

oooh, I get to brag. I live in the woods, on a boundary of 350 ac. National Forest land between Suches and Dahlonega.
It's not for everyone. I'm twenty minutes from civilization-- but it's incredibly beautiful here, any season. Thanks for asking!

Can see why you wanted to get married in Maui, Cyn. I can elaborate more on the wedding but since the marriage is long since over, I wont, however if I were to ever get married again I would recommend it
And Cyn, I knew a bit about Yonkers before but it's certainly great to put some pics and info to those impressions... Its a pretty big and very diverse city with much to offer, however it does have its share of crime and the public school system is awful. However it does has lovely homes, luxury buildings, parks, lakes and plenty of other things to do. I sent that link to show all of the progress the city has been making with its Waterfront development. I don't plan on living here after my kids are out of school, I would rather go to another big city in NY, but I do like the fact that everything I could ever want is in walking distance.

NC and the Outer Banks look fascinating Beach... The Wright brothers and an English colonial village ... Going on my list of places to visit!
I can understand why the Highlanders settled there in Georgia, Lass ! Looks very much like Scotland now they replanted the moorland with spruce - also with the water courses and falls... PS long time no see!
Cyn, NY just IS one of the obligatory places to visit wherever you come from. Nice to see they renovated the waterfront and the amusement park, the front was used in T Hank's "BIG" I think you said. It's always great to have everything at your fingertips...and Jersey just across the water?
I've often wondered how Jersey (the English Channel islands) and York got over there... I read that we pilfered NY from the Dutch after landing at Wall Street behind them... But I guess the name just came from our Court of York. York and Lancashire fought the Wars of the Roses for the crown. In its heraldry, York has a white rose and Lancashire a red rose.
Thanks all, VERY interesting!

One of the nice things also is where I live is called the "Tri-State" area. So in one day I can drive into all three states.... NY, NJ and Conn. I won't reveal how many times I've missed an exit on the highway and found myself wandering in one of the other states, LOL

Winnipeg looks great, Sense... So they kept the original City Hall, Exchange, College and Cathedral front... but the Cathedral burnt down, that was a real shame. The hotel looks pretty awesome too... was it to serve holidaymakers in the summer?
Reminds me a bit of the Overlook hotel in "the Shining" lol but I think that is a real ski hotel in Canada??
Looks beautiful around Long Plain too, but is it moderate there in winter?
I found an old picture of Queensbury junction from 1908. Up to the left on the very high hilltop is my old school, Foxhill. It's just up the road from my home. The local band all plied their trade from Junior School so we had music every morning at assembly...

This is the church across the road from my home:
>Queensbury Church from the Rear<
And from the opposite end to my home:
