Local establishments are best, but if you have to do a national/regional chain, which is your fav?
My fav is Cheesecake Factory. The fish and meat entrees are not so great, but the signature salads, soups, and appetizers are great IMO, and of course, the CHEESECAKE!!!
My least fav is IHOP YUK!

I'm definitely one of those people who seek out the mom 'n pop restaurants... the little holes in the wall... but when forced to choose between the big chain type restaurants, I will generally choose:
Pasta House
or
Cracker Barrel

Cracker Barrels are fun...
I like Mimi's Cafe for comfort food or Papadeux's for Cajun

Applebee's or Texas Roadhouse for a chain type - other wise, I, too, enjoy the little local Mom and Pop type places.

Applebee's is good. I agree. I love their Mini Patch Pizza, and their Caesar Salad is excellent. Desserts are good too.
For drive-thrus, definitely Del Taco. I always get the quesadilla and a side of guacamole.
Shoot! Now I'm hungry.

Anthony's Pier 4 - Boston
Anthony's Hawthorne - Lynn
Anthony's Hawthorne By-the-Sea - Lynn
Anthony's General Glover - Swampscott
Anthony's Cumaquid - Barnstable (Cumaquid)
Chains: ? Not a lot to choose from really
Hearth-and-Kettle / Cracker Barrel (similar)
Appplebee's (Some - if they are not inundated with the teenies)
Donuts: Dunkin' Donuts (which is why the KK people try to send their staff to Dunkin' Donuts University (Randolph)
And... there is a chain in Pennsylvania - I just can't remember the name - maybe Dutch Pantry?

I can't believe 2 (make that 3!) people already said Waffle House! My boss makes us go about every other week. Tracy is our favorite waitress. She's blonde with gold teeth, pleasantly plump, and slightly sassy. Then there's Suzy, the manager and cook, who is totally sassy and adorable. When I sit down, Tracy says, "Are you having just coffee or did this guy remember to tell you this time not to eat breakfast?" We love Tracy.
My favorite chain is Macaroni Grill. They have Insalata Florentine -- yum!! And ours has operatic tenor who sings "Happy Birthday" beautifully. The restaurant is very noisy but he projects throughout the dining room. 'Course, everyone gets quiet when he starts so we can listen. What a special treat!

I'd have to say Cracker Barrel. Nothing beats dining there and then going shopping in their store before or after dinner. Love the take home food items they have with all that unique country and baking items.
