As you all know....I don't use the stove. It is now a decrative planter in my kitchen
If you have children and get home at 7:00 every night, the microwave will save your life!
My favorite summer thing to make is a ham steak in microwave for 4 minutes. Tiny corn on the cob heated in water for 4 min. Serve with cole slaw and lemonade. Great quick and easy dinner

Everything is faster and easier in a microwave. One thing I can't handle though is meat cooked in the micro. Reheating meat is fine but if you put in an uncooked piece of meat somehow the texture seems to change.
I used to have an awesome mini cheesecake recipe but when I moved, I lost it!

Rules. cooking is all about the rules. In the micro wave you can cook anything and everything if ya just know the rules. Of course you are giving up quality for convence. Couple rules to remember.
even placements, cooks evenly. avoid the middle. The middle is always the hotest spot. Things are still cooking even after the bing. Watch your times.

One of the joys of cooking in a microwave is the food splatter that cakes the inside of the unit. I allow mine to gather these tasty morsels for weeks before scraping them off to use as a topping on my favorite Microwave Casserole I call " I Think It's Done."

One thing I personally don't think is good micro-d is pasta.
Hot dogs are easy-pierce and nuke for 45 seconds,

Pasta aint that pain although tricky. Ya could always just preboil and freeze when you have the time and use the micro to reheat. But there is another trick, heat the water to near boil first. When you put both in at once the pasta centered and heats up first before the water. To do pasta though in a microwave isnt really time saving. Boil water with alittle salt is even slightly faster

Rice is no good in the microwave, if daughter cooks it.
Then she calls me on the phone - 'Mummy, it's black, the house is filled with smoke!'

I bought a steamer for the microwave, LOVE IT !!!!!!!!
I get fresh veggies from the farmers market and pour in a little water and you have the best veggies you have ever tasted, with all the nutrients still in there.
I also cook my corn on the cob in there too, ( well at least partially) I like to jump start them and put them on the grill to finish cooking.
I usually cook them right in the husk, but the corn someone brought over the other day had the husk removed. I wrapped the corn in papertowel, and wet first then cooked it for 3 mins.
I also love ham,egg and cheese bagel sandwiches, I whip the eggs up, put some spices in there, ( whatever you like) add the ham and pour into a bowl that had a quick shot of pam in it, ( the key is to find a bowl with same size as the bagel ) . Nuke it for like 3-4 minutes. And place it on a toasted bagel....
Very quick and easy breakfast.

I dunno, I just nuked some pasta for lunch (Healthy Choice Fresh Mixers, Tuscan Chicken). Add water to fill line (just slightly higher than pasta level), cook for 3.5 minutes and heat the sauce for the last 30 seconds. It was perfectly al dente and a pretty tasty sauce.
The thing I like most about the product is that it's shelf stable (yeah, the preservatives will kill me, along with the dioxins from the plastic and all that...but then again, something's gonna do it someday). That allows me to stockpile in the pantry without using fridge or freezer space.
Tonight I'll be reheating a pork chop (cooked about half a dozen of them the other day, froze some, fridged some). I'll nuke a few little red potatoes and some frozen mixed veggies. I'd be lost without it my microwave but I do use it more for reheating than for actual cooking.

I'm sure the result is the same, but the steamer keeps the veggies above the water, otherwise you can be boiling the food in water, which takes some of the good stuff out..
But as long as it works.

blue...I think the trick is very little water......
and the fact that I don't have room for one more gadget in my kitchen.

Oh, I forgot to say it is actually a rice steamer...... I think it pops popcorn too, but I think i lost part of it..
I love it for rice..... comes out perfect every time.
I use it for stir fry, so having the rice done without much effort makes it easier to put each ingredient in the wok so it comes out at the correct doneness so much easier. I actually cook that outside with a propane burner, gotta have it good and hot.
But I understand, I hate unigadets or unitaskers, only good for one thing.... well, cept the fire extinguisher, but thats the one we have that we hope we never have to never use.

This is the unit I have.....
Micro steamer
All you do is add water and rice, nuke for the correct time, and let it set..
It will cook long grain, brown or even instant rice. The amount of water and cooking times vary.
But long grain..... 1 cup rice, 1 1/2 cup water and cook for 10-12 minutes, and let set for 5 minutes.....
Then throw in the dishwasher.....
You can do rice, pasta, veggies, and even cook popcorn...

Don't get scared here now, blue..... What I am getting ready to type is not necessarily directed at YOU.....
BUT.....
I think I've decided what I'd RATHER have than one more gadget in my kitchen would be a MAN that can really cook! Yeah, there'd be a few additional prerequisites, too..... but cooking is up there. Yeah.....if I could have THAT, then he could have all the gadgets he wants!

I got gadgets, and I got tools...........
To me they are all the same, things that help me get things done, quicker, better and faster...
But, I never buy anything I know I won't use...
And I love to cook, it just gets boring doing it for myself all the time.
But what I really love is to cook together..... especially barely dressed, because you're hungry, only to go make more appetite, and cook some more..
