Remember the old joke, what food stifles a womans sex drive?
Answer: wedding cake!
Say it aint so!!!!! In all seriousness, while 500+ ppl isnt a HUGE survey its pretty good sized sample. Frankly I am "surprised" but NOT shocked! Damn those Brits really analyze sex!!!!!!!!!
Security 'bad news for sex drive' Differences in sexual appetite may be driven by evolution A woman's sex drive begins to plummet once she is in a secure relationship, according to research. Researchers from Germany found that four years into a relationship, less than half of 30-year-old women wanted regular sex.
Conversely, the team found a man's libido remained the same regardless of how long he had been in a relationship.
Writing in the journal Human Nature, the scientists said the differences resulted from how humans had evolved.
For men, a good reason their sexual motivation to remain constant would be to guard against being cuckolded by another male
Dr Dietrich Klusmann
The researchers from Hamburg-Eppendorf University interviewed 530 men and women about their relationships.
They found 60% of 30-year-old women wanted sex "often" at the beginning of a relationship, but within four years of the relationship this figure fell to under 50%, and after 20 years it dropped to about 20%.
In contrast, they found the proportion of men wanting regular sex remained at between 60-80%, regardless of how long they had been in a relationship.
Tenderness
The study also revealed tenderness was important for women in a relationship.
About 90% of women wanted tenderness, regardless of how long they had been in a relationship, but only 25% of men who had been in a relationship for 10 years said they were still seeking tenderness from their partner.
Dr Dietrich Klusmann, lead author of the study and a psychologist from Hamburg-Eppendorf University, believed the differences were down to human evolution.
He said: "For men, a good reason their sexual motivation to remain constant would be to guard against being cuckolded by another male."
But women, he said, have evolved to have a high sex drive when they are initially in a relationship in order to form a "pair bond" with their partner.
But, once this bond is sealed a woman's sexual appetite declines, he added.
He said animal behaviour studies suggest this could be because females may be diverting their sexual interest towards other men, in order to secure the best combinations of genetic material for their offspring.
Or, he said, this could be because limiting sex may boost their partner's interest in it.
Professor George Fieldman, an evolutionary psychologist from Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College, said: "These findings seem to fit in with anecdotal studies and his explanations seem plausible.
"The rational for why a woman's sex drive declines may be down to supply and demand. If something is in infinite supply, the perceived value would drop."

*shrug* i think it depends on the couple. plus, being married or in a serious relationship comes with stressors of its own, and women who are stressed usually (god forbid i make generalizations ) don't want to have sex. and when kids enter the equation, women who are up multiple times in the night get tired...hence, a lack of sexual apetite (sp?). and after a while of that, it can get into a habit, almost, not to have sex because both partners are stressed, tired, etc. i think the desire for each other is still there, but life gets in the way. it just has to be nurtured.

well there might be a small problem.
He said animal behaviour studies suggest
and here might be another...cant we find something better to compair us to othere than a bunch of chimps.
and maybe our sex drive fall off because we are too damn busy taking care of kids, jobs, and and the end of the day we are just too tired for our cave men to come rooting around. geez

I guess I must be "weird," then, because, if anything, my sex drive gets stronger if I'm in a HAPPY, fulfilling LTR.
On the other hand, if I'm not happy, if he's cheating on me or otherwise mistreating me, or being noncommunicative, it may APPEAR that my sex drive has gone down. Nothing could be further from the truth. I want sex just as much as I ever did; I just don't want it with HIM.

Alone--- thats bcz you live too far from me.
And Jean --you are in your early 40's -- that is when a woman reaches her sexual peak. Men do at about age 18 .... God must have had a sense of humor there....
But charize--- you make a good point -- that does have alot to do with women losing some of their sex drive. If men want it more-- they could always help out more around the house. That way, women are not nearly as stressed.

Could also be that the women no longer display a sex drive after they become secure in a relationship because: As my daddy use to say "You don't need to bait the hook when the fish is already in the boat"

That doesn't make sense. Why would she want to be with the man if she didn't want to have sex with him?
Maybe for the money; I dunno. There's no way I'd ever live with a man who I didn't want to have sex with! I absolutely REFUSE to cheat, with or without his "blessing," so I'd end up leaving.

Well, I have met several women who were more interested in being married than being single. A variety of reason exist. No male figure in the household, companionship, financial security, trophy, blah blah blah.
Point is that it would not be uncommon for a women to express an great interest in sex, and once they have secured the "man of thier dreams" revert back to thier "real" level of sexual interest. Could be that it just get to be the same ole-same ole after a couple of years. I agree (from experience) that the introduction of children into a relationship will certainly put a sex drive into hibernation. There are just so many hours in a day. and just so much energy to go round.
