How old is too old? How young is too young? |

I'm only 21, and my most recent ex is 31 (he looked only 24 or so). I thought 10 years was too much, but we actually had a lot in common and I really enjoyed being with him, we just wanted different things. So, I think that, to a certain extent, age doesn't matter.
But I was just wondering, what age would I think was too old? The reason I ask is because a majority of men who message me on other dating siites (and so far on this one) are so much older than me. I'm getting risque messages from 50 year old men. Do they really think a relationship could work between them and a 21 year old college student? Or, is it just a male fantasy to be with a younger women, reguardless of whether or not it could work?
I don't think I could date someone more than 10 years older than me. Even then, I think a guy at 31 would have to look younger for me to be interested as well as be young at heart.
So how much older or younger would you be willing to go? Do you think the range in which you're willing to date has expanded as you've gotten older? Any experiences you want to share?

Ahh...you two dirty ol' men are so cute!
Erica...go with what you're comfortable with as age is only a number. Having things in common and getting along is what really matters.

I'm 19, so I understand what you mean. I get messages from 50 year olds too. You're right; age doesn't matter to an extent. However, most of these messages I do get from older men (much older, by the way) are usually about sex or "having a fun time", so I generally ignore them. Not because of their age, but simply because they're seeking for a piece of my you-know-what. But, alas, I think age matters when you're both at different levels of your life. It's hard to relate to someone who has, say, 30 years on you.

I like em a lil older.. As my parents told me many times... You don't know everything, and if you think you do, wait a few years and see how much you know..
I find guys who are 18-19-21-22ish just not in the same mindset that I'm in. It seems its always about scoring the next round of booze.. who can party harder ect ect...
I find guys who are around 30-35ish more grounded.. can still have a wild good time wherever but think a little more about the future then just the next weekend party session..
Don't get me wrong.. i'm not trying to sterotype.. I'm sure there are guys out there that are 18-22-23 who are more grounded then the decade ahead of them counter parts.. I just can't seem to run into those ones..

well, since the specific point was made concerning dating, pretty much any age is fine with me. the first date would definitely decide if a 2nd date was possible.

When they hang around my kids more than me, they're too young.
I like people around my own age and older. I just find we have more in common and they can't get away as fast.

I'm getting risque messages from 50 year old men I sympathize with you, it happens to me almost every day. Ignore and delete the emails, most of the time they won't email you more than once.
Too young is anything not legal, because I'm 19..andI don't really have a too old, ideally, but practically my too old would be in the late twenties.

under 18 is too young legally.. Over 50 can be too old for some of you morally....
Depends on everyone's taste.. look at Anna Nicole Smith she had sex with a senior citizen.. He was not too old for her taste... But maybe too old for most womens... I would say if you date qualifies for the senior citizen meal at the local eateries - he is too old...If the waitress thinks you are his caregiver or his granddaughter... That is a big sign...

I do not advocate pedophilia or anything like that, but I still do waste an occasional moment wondering why our society settled on 18 as the age when a person becomes an adult. We all know (or should) that age does not necessarily determine maturity. I know too many people who are theoretically adults and yet act like children. Conversely, I knew people in high school who were mature beyond their years. When my father was born in 1934, the minimum "legal" age was 21. Parents could legally demand that their children work on the farm, for example, until they were 21. My father effectively became an adult when he was 16 and got his first job (which he labored at for the next forty-two years.) He was unable to vote until he was 21, tho. It seems to me that our society is unable to balance responsibility and privilege. Children receive computers even before they enter their teens, for example, and yet cannot be punished for their transgressions even though their parents are often unable to monitor or even to figure just what they are doing with their computers. A teen can get his drivers' license at 16, but all too often is not expected to pay for the insurance, fuel, etc. It just seems strange to me that we simultaneously insist that our children be children and yet expect them to behave like adults. I guess that is what I really envy about my father's childhood: The boundaries were much clearer back then.

Rare.. I think you are thinking too much again.. Lets keep it simple.. the law is there for a reason.. break it and you ( not you personally ) will become a registered sex offender. (IMNSHO shot at sunrise would be better) But after a child turns 18 then your thoughts of maturity do come into play.. why did you decide to delve into the younger than 18 year old group here? as for

Children receive computers even before they enter their teens, for example, and yet cannot be punished for their transgressions even though their parents are often unable to monitor or even to figure just what they are doing with their computers . thinking that a responsible parent/teen relationship solves all your concerns. as for the bold text here.. Parents can always pull the internet plug.( the most simplest and effective way of monitoring available) I also give today's parents more credit than you seem to as for...
A teen can get his drivers' license at 16, but all too often is not expected to pay for the insurance, fuel, etc. remember that it takes a parents permission for a 16 year old to obtain a drivers license. No 16 year old can sign a valid legal document as they are still juveniles..
