Is someone giving you a hicky - marking his/her territory?
I always found them to be signs of insecurity.
*I have to mark my mate so no one else will take or want her*
I don't like them. I find them unatractive and think they make you look trashy.

well I always felt hickeys were disgusting and warned any guy that I was dating, if you give me one, you're dead meat
but I did manage to get one in Junior High..........my sis and I were arguing......she took the vacuum hose to my neck..........had to wear a turtleneck for 1 1/2 weeks

NO WAY. I don't give them and I most certainly don't desire them. One appeared on my ass not long ago which was discovered not by me.
IMO the look of a hickey is trashy above the shoulders. If done during times of mega passion below the shoulders it could be referred to as an occupational hazard. Still knowing how hard to nibble and suck is something that comes with experience. 
Is someone giving you a hicky - marking her territory? Doesn't have to be a hickey, I've had hair brushes, watches, rings, lipstick, barrettes even an occasional pair of panties unintentionally of course left behind in the play room, lower bath/hot tub area. If they're going to do any marking of their territory they will find a way.

I'm not ever happy to discover I've gotten one and if I become concerned it might be going to happen, I usually warn the offender, but still it does happen once in a while. I don't think it's gross, just embarrassing, and I hide it if it's in a place where it may show. I think it's a definite marking of territory. I've noticed that when I've gotten them, the guy has managed to do it right before I leave and since I prefer to have long-distance relationships and it may be a few weeks or months before I see the person again, maybe the guy feels better knowing for sure I'm not going to be taking my clothes off anytime soon for someone else to see it. It's not that uncommon for guys to do it on purpose in that situation since more than one has done just that.
