The San Francisco mayor has admitted to an affair with his campaign manager's wife.

We have become accustomed to our political leaders not being able to keep their pants zipped, so maybe this should not be a big surprise.

What is it about politicians, that is so enticing to women?

Did any of you hear his speech??? Do you know anything about him other than what you just read or heard in the news?

Do you realize, that it was consentual(sp) sex?? He ( the Mayor) did not force her, or do anything like that.

The bad part is the man that resigned, he has been the one hurt.

I predict that Mayor Gavin Newsome will some day run for Govenor and even get elected. What he did or does in his private life has nothing to do with how he governs a city as big and diverse as San Fransisco.

I really wonder, why and how this even made it to the media. Someone wanted to make money and broke this story to them.

I read Monica made over a million dollars with her tell all book. A gal would have to work many years to make that much... so I guess many see it as a shortcut... and also a way to get noticed... as many like that kind of thing.

Lets face it, we don't have movie stars anymore, we have "celebrities" and many are more infamous than famous.

Hardly new inventions...and even if it's NOBODY'S business, some people's personal affairs (pardon the pun ) will always be "news" to SOMEONE -- even if it should be labelled "busy-body gossip". Not necessary, not nice.

He was very honest and apologized. I have seen him many times, and have never seen him look the way he did in the press conference.

Yes, he is a looker huh? Not married either and not gay,,( it is San Fransisco ya know)

We elect officials because of how we think they will handle their office and where they stand on the issues, not whether or not we think they're going to do what a lot of us have done, do, or will do anyway.

It's no one's business.

I find it interesting that people are willing to forgive an act in someone they don't even know that they would never forgive in someone they love. So going by this logic, if your spouse or S/O cheats and gives a "heartfelt apology", then you would all forgive him/her. Yeah, right.

I'm not in love with Bill Clinton. I'm not in a committed relationship with him. What he does with his sex life is between him and his wife, not me and the American public.

Elected officials are the ones who create/pass laws etc, etc, Laws are created in the interest of all of us living respectfully and safely with eachother in a very basic root definition. Pretty much based on general principles of right and wrong, which brings us to morals. Sleeping with another mans wife (consensual or not, apology or not) is immoral, disrespectful and shows a distinct lack of good judgement. In that sense, I can see it being the "public's" business to know how he handles his personal life, as that lack of morals and judgement may well reflect on how he handles his public office.

Had they both been single, it would have no bearing on how he handles his office and public duties and therefore none of the public's business.

This applies to both the current scandle with the Mayor and the Clinton scandle as well.

Just MHO

We weren't talking about Klinton, but since you brought that up. It happened in the oval office while the American public was paying his salary. So it was our business.
He was an employee, our employee. People seem to forget that.

You guys are all focusing on the political part of this. Screw the politics, this guy was supposd to be Newsome's friend. You don't screw your friend's wife/girlfriend/dog/whatever. People that do things like that to friends are scum, no matter what political party they belong to or what their job is. You don't f*** over your friends, not once, not ever.

I agree with a number of posts in this thread. And it's all quite interesting.

But I agree with Toucher most of all. That IS something you absolutely do not do!!
