Somehow I think a second date may never materialize if that happens. (And I'm right, it never did!!)
Um, I guess this is another case of YMMV...I'm two for two on the opposite of that...only had sex on the first date twice, and both ended up being LTRs (including the current one...damn, that was incredible chemistry and it's still there).

I don't usually want sex on the first date but once I didn't make it past the first couple minutes after walking into his house, but that was after months of flirting back and forth on this site, many more months of emailing off site, and then hours and hours of talking on the phone listening to his sexy voice, and culminating finally in a kiss that I felt all the way to the tips of my toes after he put my luggage in his truck at the airport.
In retrospect, it was still a mistake. I should have rented a motel room instead of buying into that "you can sleep in the second bedroom" stuff. He thought I went all the way to Texas to have sex. There's no way I would go that far just for sex (although it was great).
I would be more interested in finding out how to keep guys from wanting to have sex on the first or second date.

I think sex on the first date is tactless and cheap not only does it scream desperation it also tells Me they have no morals when it comes to the bedroom .
Have I had My opportunities to have sex on the first date???...yes of course I did plenty of times....but I didnt act on them.
Horny or not I would not have much respect for a Woman who put out on the first date maybe I'm old fashioned but?..what ever happened to getting to know people first before hopping into bed with them

hey, the question was : what makes us WANT sex, not what makes us HAVE sex, right?
Therefore,the obvious answer would be - GOOD PHYSICAL HEALTH makes people WANT sex , while POOR MENTAL HEALTH makes some of them fail to apply reason before ACTING on this desire at improper time/place.

I don't have sex on first date and if my date tries that, there is
definitely no second date.

Then there are some of us who don't think of it as 'putting out'. I think part of the 'chemistry' thing was (and is) a recognition of similar attitudes as much as physical attraction.
So I guess I wouldn't have sex on the first date with a guy I'd suspect would lose respect for me if I did it, but I also strongly suspect there wouldn't be a second date either...too much of a disparity in what's important to us. But that's probably also part of why I went out on innumerable first dates before running into a guy I really wanted a second date with...and I've lost count of the 'dates' since then.
(regarding romance - part of the definition is 'illusion'. I try to avoid it)
