When you speak, do you speak to reveal or speak to conceal?
Something to think about.

Usually I speak to get a beer! I have a bad habit(?) of revealing. Sometimes maybe too much. Some people understand, some don't.

I'm pretty much an open book, ask me an honest question I'll give you a honest answer. That being said I will not volunteer to much to some people because based on their personality I know it will be used as gossip and ammo against me at a later date.

It depends who I'm speaking to. There are those I trust right off...and those I've known for a while who I will never trust. Depends on my comfort level.
Do you think tillie's butt looks fat? No...and I think her boobs are amazing.

Not divulging that information because it may or may not be used against me. I'm neutral, especially being that I don’t know who Tillie is.

I have noticed that those who are pretty closed off can get uncomfortable having a conversation with those of us who are more the open-book type.

A dog that'll give a bone will take a bone. So...don't give up your bone. Or something like that.

When you speak, do you speak to reveal or speak to conceal? Is it an either or proposition? Don't most of us tailor our conversation to the audience at hand? And don't you find that we end up revealing ourselves far more than we intended or realized a lot of the time? And don't we all keep some things private? Sure, we have our basic natures and some of us are more open and there are the cons who will never be straight with you but most people seem to fall into a middle ground. Have you had some revealing/concealing encounters lately?

thinking you took him too literally here..
I read the op to mean.. when you carry on a conversation, do you talk about subjects that will not reveal anything about yourself ?
we have all been there ...taking part in long drawn out conversation where at the end..we did not know much more about the person than when we started
vs.. ... choosing subjects that lead to your telling things that you want the other person to know about regarding yourself.....

I open my mouth way too much, and reveal too much about myself on a regular basis. I really need to not say anything about myself and just keep asking about him. Men love to talk about themselves and their accomplishments, just have to keep them focused on the right subject. I am learning though!

I probably say too much at times also. But then there is little in my life that needs concealing. I've led a boring life!

But don’t we call this trait "Authentic"
I think there is something endearing about openness in a person. Authenticity in a person shows they are secure in who they are, not likely to change their opinion just to match yours, because they have already put it out there. They are also not pretentious, mysterious or sarcastic, because you know what they say is what they mean; you don’t sit there wondering if there was an ulterior hidden meaning or motive.
It is living you life with you heart open.
I like meeting people like this but the do need to becareful.
It is a shame but with life experience you do learn that some people are out there to take advantage of this openness.
Use your best judgment and reveal yourselves to people that are worthy of it.

interesting conversation...however...if someone is not honest about being open...how would you know?
Personally...I speak to reveal not conceal...I have nothing to hide...it's out there...ask me anything...concealing is for whimps!!! lol
