Vaginal chaffing caused by undergarments |

Women tend to feel more sexy wearing things like thongs, and other undergarments designed more for looks than functionality. My hypothesis is that women cause themselves to become chaffed and irritated in the vaginal area in their efforts to make themselves feel.....sexy. What are your thoughts on this?

If you choose the right fabric, cotton thongs and stretch jeans, not a problem.

In my experience with thongs..they don't chaffethe front, they chafe the butt crack (after my dryer has finished shrinking them, that is!)
As for the front area....for the most part, I choose cotton fabrics, because satin/silk will hold the wetness...which causes irritation to those of us who really get wet. Still, I think there are some pretty cute cotton panties out there....string bikinis or boy shorts.
I also tend to avoid lace as I find it itchy.

LJ, I think somebody lied to you again in order to avoid said garments. It is absolutely NOT true. Any of it. I KNOW.

thats why the make power! I've also learned that if you put deodorant on under everything you won't have that problem as much.... Cotton is good too... anything breathable.

As long as it isn't tight, fits properly, and the right material (tons are suitable) it definetly is not a problem...
As far as looks over functionality, well they are very functional, who wants to walk around with granny panty lines showing through their clothes?

Probably need a different thread for this, but....what's with the popularity of these goofy thongs, anyway? Those just appear to be so incredibly uncomfortable, I can't figure out why ANYONE would wear them - whether they're "dressing" for a man or not! Can someone explain this fascination to me?

I wear thongs, for me it's more comfortable, if I wear regular panties they end up where the thongs are to start with....so by wearing the thongs I don't have that extra material to TRY to discreetly extract.

I like cotton ones, but in the summertime I wear thongs and they don't cause any chafing....The elastic in the other type of underwears elastic in the leg part irritates ma butt cheeks.
and for you ladies using powder in your undies that isn't a good idea...unless it is cornstarch powder...talcum is irritating to our sensative body part down there.

Hmm, I've been using baby powder everyday when I shower and I've never had a problem, been doing that for years.

I tried to remember the reason I thought it was bad beside the irritation factor and this is what I found...
http://www.preventcancer.com/consumers/cosmetics/talc.htm
Q. Why is talc harmful?
A. Talc is closely related to the potent carcinogen asbestos. Talc particles have been shown to cause tumors in the ovaries and lungs of cancer victims. For the last 30 years, scientists have closely scrutinized talc particles and found dangerous similarities to asbestos. Responding to this evidence in 1973, the FDA drafted a resolution that would limit the amount of asbestos-like fibers in cosmetic grade talc. However, no ruling has ever been made and today, cosmetic grade talc remains non-regulated by the federal government. This inaction ignores a 1993 National Toxicology Program report which found that cosmetic grade talc, without any asbestos-like fibers, caused tumors in animal subjects.1 Clearly with or without asbestos-like fibers, cosmetic grade talcum powder is a carcinogen.
Q. What kind of exposure is dangerous?
A. Talc is toxic. Talc particles cause tumors in human ovaries and lungs. Numerous studies have shown a strong link between frequent use of talc in the female genital area and ovarian cancer. Talc particles are able to move through the reproductive system and become imbedded in the lining of the ovary. Researchers have found talc particles in ovarian tumors and have found that women with ovarian cancer have used talcum powder in their genital area more frequently than healthy women.2
Talc poses a health risk when exposed to the lungs. Talc miners have shown higher rates of lung cancer and other respiratory illnesses from exposure to industrial grade talc, which contains dangerous silica and asbestos. The common household hazard posed by talc is inhalation of baby powder by infants. Since the early 1980s, records show that several thousand infants each year have died or become seriously ill following accidental inhalation of baby powder.3

Just a little more I found....sorry if this is off topic...
A study published in 1999 found an increased risk for ovarian cancer with the use of talcum powder, but the risk was only in women who used the powder directly on the genital area, placed it in their underwear, or placed it on sanitary pads. Women who used it in non-genital areas did not have an increased risk. Another study published in 1997 of 313 women with ovarian cancer and 422 without this disease found that the women with cancer were more likely to have applied talcum powder to their external genital area or to have used genital deodorant sprays. Women using these products had a 50% to 90% higher risk of developing ovarian cancer. Storing diaphragms with powder did not significantly increase cancer risk. Since many of these women might have used products with more asbestos contamination than that in current products, the ovarian cancer risk for current users is difficult to determine.
Until more information is available, women may wish to consider avoiding these products or substituting cornstarch-based powders that contain no talc. There is no evidence at present linking cornstarch powders with any female cancers.
One study has suggested that an increased risk, if it exists, might be confined to borderline and endometrioid (uterine-like) tumors and therefore might not affect the majority of ovarian cancers.

I love my thongs and g-strings. Once a month I have to wear regular ones and it drives me crazy. I have never had a problem with "chafing" either.

I'm sure I already replied to this, but it seems to have disappeared, but since I believe that my reply IS relevant, I shall say it again!
I occasionally wear a thong and never experience chaffing, although it is certainly annoying for the strap to ride up my backside!
